I'm on the waiting list for a Tubal Ligation and I wondered if anyone in this commmunity had any tips, advice or experiences to share with me. I've obviously got information from the surgical/medical stand point but thought it would be nice to hear from other women who have had the procedure.

Thanks :)

I had one nineteen years ago when I was 22. I went in the morning and was home by afternoon. I hated being knocked out but I felt fine by about 6:00 in the evening and was able to care for my six week old son. They gave me pain killers but I think I ended up giving them to a friend. Maybe I have a high tolerance for pain but I thought it was much more painful to have my wisdom teeth cut out.

I think I couldn’t have sex for a wile but I don’t really remember.

Good luck and I hope it painless for you too.

Mine wasn't that painful either. I was more woozy from the anesthesia than anything, although I would recommend taking it easy for a day or so...no champion weight-lifting or anything.
If you're on the Pill for hormone regulation purposes, remember that a tubal won't help with any of that...my doctor told me (and it's been backed up on many forums online) that that's the biggest complaint women have about the procedure. They blame the increased bleeding and cramps on their tubal, when it's really because they've stopped taking BC.

Tubal...

I had one a few years ago when I was 24. Remember to sit up because they are going to put gas in your abdomen and it can go up to your shoulder and can be quite painful. This happens with almost all abdominal surgeries.

I took some Percocet the first day, followed by the ibprofen the next few days. Take it easy for a few days, but in about a week or so I was back to myself.

I had the laparoscopic tubal ligation (old slash and burn, no clips).

If you have any more questions, please do email me. (addy's on profile).

I actually had a really rough time with the operation because it turned out I was as sensitive to anaesthetic as my mom is. :( I threw up for 5 hours after my tubal, was in intense pain, and landed back at the hospital in the middle of the night. Throwing up after abdominal surgery is NO FUN. I managed to pop a stitch and get an infeciton in my bellybutton entry point, which necessitated broad spectrum antibiotics. Yucky. But i don't regret it for a minute, it was all worth it.

That's atypical, though--other friends had thiers done and they were up and about the next day with very little pain. Easy peasy!
