hi. i've been on depo for over a year. i was wondering if anybody else experienced your cooter smelling strange sometimes. randomly. it can be really fishy smelling sometimes. or just not normal. don't tell me to go to the doctor, because i plan on it. i just know that i've heard people say that depo affects your vagina and i wanted to know if i could get get some feedback on that. i know that when me and my ex would have a lot of sex, it would get all nasty and gross there for all that stuff being in there. so i can understand it being freaky then, but i haven't had sex in like 2 months. it's pretty embarrasing. or is it normal? i have no idea. oh crap, it's 4am. help?

I was on depo & never had any type of chance in smell. Since you describe it as a dishy odor, that sounds like a symptom of BV. BV is Bacterial Vaginosis, which is a bacterical infection. You can read about it here:

*fishy odor. Not "dishy."

It's 4:30 in the morning & I'm working on homework, so please excuse the typo. :)

You would need a pelvic exam, yes, but I'm pretty sure the gyno would have to look for BV and send a sample to a lab to verify that it's a bacteria infection. Unless you mentioned a possible infection or a doctor saw symptoms of one, I doubt they would just send a sample off for lab analysis.

i had a bacterial infection when I got my pap done. she was able to take a sample and diagnose me and having a bacterial infection on the spot, so i don't think she would have to wait for the results to come back from a lab. however, i am military so they may do things a bit different on the basesas opposed to normal doctors offices.

It depends on the lab & the symtpoms I'd say. I'm sure there are some ifnections they can look at the symptoms & tell right away if it's a YI or BV. However if it's a mild case they may need to do testing just to verify. And lab testing usually doesn't take that long (of course that can depend on the office I'm sure), my doctor has a lab in the same office so the results come back before I'm able to get dressed again.
