Hi--
I went to go get a brazilian wax yesterday. (my first one)I really feel like I got fucked over. I grew my hair out, and on like, the stomach part of my pubic hair a few hairs didn't come out and the waxer said it was because they were resistant and would come out next time. She kept waxing them to see if they would come out but they didn't. She didnt make me get on my hands and knees or pull my legs up or anything--so I thought that was kind of weird. then when she was done I had to clean my own wax off and she told me to put some of this aloe vera on my waxed area--so I did and it burned!!! I looked at the back of the bottle and there was alcohol in it--what the fuck? Why would you put alcohol on an area that just got waxed? So when I got home I looked down there with a mirror and on the more-inner area and more lower area of where hair is there was A LOT of hair that had been missed. It was $35 to get it done and she didn't even get all the hair off--the reason I got it done is because I dont really like manuevering all over down there with a razor, I mean I can understand 5 small hairs that didnt quite come out--but this is like a whole area. Also, all day yesterday my cooch was red and it hurt really bad. I'm not a wuss or anything but it hurt so bad that even in the shower the water running over that area hurt to the point of me crying. I couldn't touch it and it hurt to pee. I tried to put lotion (unscented, uncolored) on it but it hurt wayyy too bad. The waxer said it would be red for a couple days which I was pretty sure was not normal--because how would bikini models get it waxed and go straight to a shoot? So I called back and I made an appt. for today for her to get the rest of the hair off because if I'm going to be in that much pain there better not be any hair on it! I was pretty pissed--it seems like anytime I go to a salon anywhere and pay for a service the colorist/stylist/waxist screws up and then I have to pitch a bitch and spend my time and gas to go back and get it fixed. She said it should last 3-4 weeks but it really doesnt seem like it because I'm not smooth all over, like if I run my finger with the grain it is smooth but if I run my finger against it i can feel bumps or something--its just not smooth. I'm so disappointed. After today I'll never go back there. It's a day spa that offers all sorts of services and is highly respected so I thought it was just ridiculous how bad my wax was. If the hair grows back in less than a week I'm going to go back and demand my money back because it should last at least 3-4 as she said. Oh, and the waxer told me it would be okay to go swimming or lay out in the sun afterwards, (which I didn't) but then when I called the secretary she told me not to go swimming or lay out in the sun or no hot showers and to lay with a bag of frozen peas on my cooch. Is it supposed to be this bad? I thought it was kind of ridiculous--I mean when you wax your eyebrows they're red for like, an hour maybe, and then they're smooth against and with the grain. Even getting my clit hood pierced wasn't this much of a hassle. If people respond and say that this is not appropriate is there anyone I can call, like the BBB or something?

Mini rant--I'm sick of going to salons and having this attitude from the workers. I always tell people exactly what I want and I never get it and then I always have to complain. If I say "just a quarter inch" I get like an inch off. If I say "heavy highlights" the highlights get left on too long and I end up with spots in my hair. I think its because most people are too afraid to complain so they leave the salon with a bad haircut or bad highlights. My advice is to complain if something isn't done right--you are paying for it and if you're still not satisfied tell everyone you know that it's a bad place to go to.
(Exception: Theres a difference between an actual bad haircut and something that you wanted and then just didn't like)

$35 is really cheap for a brazilian. . . I wouldn't trust anything cheaper than $50. . .

and if you're having razor troubles, try to get an electric, wet/dry razor. They're absolutly amazing, and in the long run, a LOT cheaper than getting waxed every two weeks.

That is NOT how a Brazilian should be, believe me. Even the very first time I went didn't hurt that much. Granted it does hurt more at different times in your cycle, but it is completely wrong that a place should be so lax about their own pain infliction as to simply recommend you lie with frozen peas on your vag afterwards. And leaving hair is totally unacceptable.

My advice is to go with word of mouth. I used to go to a woman who did Scary Spice's Brazilians (hahahahaha) and she was brilliant. Unfortunately that's London which isn't much use to you.

Definitely definitely bad.

oh no - there should be no hair there, and there shouldn't residual pain that brings tears to your eyes, EVER!

i've been getting regular brazilians for 9 months (for $35, actually, but its not a spa, you don't need an appointment, the woman was written up as best in the city, and she's also a registered nurse).

you absolutely have a right to complain - although i will say that i have sensitive skin all around and it is always red for a day...but not painful like you described.

and, normally, i'd agree about the price - but i think my waxer is a rare exception. if you live in philadelphia i can help you...

good luck!

international salon, on the 1700 block of sansom (between 17th and 18th streets).

the russian woman who runs the place does the waxing, and she does an excellent job. like i said, she used to be a nurse and isn't squeamish and gets everything off and there's no appointment and its cheap - you just have to do everything she says - like the soup nazi on seinfeld.

don't be scared, though, i've been going to her since november...actually, i'm going today after work...good luck!

how can models have procedures done and go straight to a shoot?

um...air brushing?

That said, it does sound like she did a bad job, and good luck getting it all figured out and I hope you're feeling better!

I agree with your rant about bad stylists. This for me also includes a massage therapist and makeup artists that I've been to in the past.

My sister gets waxed all the time and that sounds like a bad deal. You should try a different salon. Also, the price is a litle on the cheapside, so it might just be a bad uality place altogether. Have you tried one of those salons like Veda? For your first one, I would try to go to a place like that and that way you have something to compare it to. In any case, it really shouldn't be that painful. Pain yes, throbbing a bit yes, but not *that* bad.

alchoholic perhaps to prevent infection. as much as the aloe stung, imagine a full on skin infection on that whole area.

Hair left, yes that is a problem.

Otherwise I get pretty much all of those side effects you mentioned EVERY time I wax. It doesnt matter who does it. It hurts. The more time you go over the area with wax and pulling, the more it hurts.

Tend Skin, a decently well known product that many people recommend has alcohol in it. It stings at first but also has some numbing sensation to it.

I have had several waxes, and only one time did I get on my 'hands and knees' and that was to have my butt done. So I woudlnt worry about that either.

In my area, its $25 for a partial brazilian and 45 for a full. Mine only lasts entirely smooth for a few days (I guess my hair grows fast) though I can usually go 3 weeks without alot of hair showing up.

That's just wrong. My waxing was never like that, and when I had particularly stubborn hairs, my waxer would pluck them out when she was done with the wax, because over-waxing will really tear the skin up - as you know. She also should have cleaned most of the wax off - there's always a little bit left, but mine always wore off by the end of the day.

And alcohol? No no no no! That's the worst thing she could have done. There's a gel called Tend that you can use, if you're not allergic to aspirin. It keeps the pain down, and it's an anti-bacterial.

I wouldn't go back there - I'd call the management and complain about what a horrible, shoddy job their waxer did.

Have you been waxed at all before? Waxing tends to be a "your mileage may vary" situation so it's really hard to say if it was a bad waxer? (was this person a licensed aesthetician?) or if your skin just won't tolerate waxing or if it just feels bumpy afterwards. I'd recommend making sure the person is a licensed aesthetician in the future.

That said, some of it does sound pretty odd, especially about the part about her rewaxing the same area and then just leaving the stray hairs. She should have just plucked them.

As far as her having you remove the wax afterwards, I think that can depends a lot on where you live. Laws differ widely on how much someone can touch you depending on where you live, especially if you're in the midwest and especially considering it was a Brazillian wax.

I'd suggest word of mouth in the future, or if you're in a college town, a lot of college newspapers will run a "best of" section. I don't really know about the price, I paid $15 for a modified bikini wax a few weeks ago.

I second the Tend Skin, you can find it at Sephora and it's a tad pricy (was it $25 for the small bottle? *can't remember), but you don't need a lot to get the job done, and it lasts quite a while.

I'm a regular home waxer myself (Nads!), but I have gotten professional waxes, and the results I got were the same as what I did to myself (and I paid $60 at a very high priced European salon). In my experience with Brazillians, they wax the "top" into as much of a strip/triangle/whatever as you ask for, the bikini line, and from the bikini line they move "in" only until as much as you can stand. They also only wax the butt area if you ask. But it's still all under the "Brazillian" heading. I'm guessing that what they actually consider one depends on where you go; some people can hear "Brazillian" and think of going completly bare, whereas some thing of leaving a strip, or some just waxing a little off the sides and the bikini line.

After mine were done, she'd wipe of the majority of the excess wax, but then she gave me a cloth with hot water on it to go over myself better, and a cloth with aloe vera lotion on it, and left the room for me to clean up and dress. I don't think most waxers are going to wax your ass and then wipe it for you, you know what I mean? At least in my experiences and stories I've heard, its usually the same.. also with the stubborn hairs or leftover ones I had, she plucked with tweezers.

I was then told not to excercise or do any strenuious activities, because the sweat coming out of my pores wouldnt feel too nice. I was red for a day or two and then it was normal, but the wax only lasted about a week until I started feeling stubble again. Which is why, like I said, a $20 jar of Nads lasts me for months and I get the same results as a $60 prof. wax.

How much does Nads hurt? How easy is it to do on your own?

For me, it feels the same, actually a little less so, than getting a professional wax. You don't have to heat up the wax, although I nuke it for maybe 10 seconds just so its consistency is easier to work with--it melts with your body heat, washes off with water. I've found it to be easy to use, but I didn't get the hang of it until after a couple tries. I ended up bruising my inner thigh terribly one day because the skin wasnt taugt enough.. but other than that I've had great results.

I am in school to be an esthetician and we just started waxing. A less expensive solution than the tend skin is 2% hydrocortisone cream. It works wonders on skin that has been damaged when waxing.

It sounds like she may have lifted your skin if it's burning that badly. I would suggest witch hazel if you feel like you need to clean it and the hydrocortisone cream.

Also, she should have moved you around and that is probably why she missed hairs. Was she recommended to you by someone or someone you found? I would honestly ask around for a good waxer because some people are just not good at it! It really shouldn't be a super painful procedure unless they are doing it wrong.

Could it be possible that you may be allergic to the wax that was used, besides the bad job that was done, or the wax in that area? I know that I'm allergic to wax period, so no eyebrows or anything, and I have friends that are allergic to wax in different areas.

Anyway, I think you should get ur money back--point blank.
