Question: I'm only 20 years old, but it seems like lately....I've been experiencing a few hot flashes. Especially at night. I try to keep my room cool, but it happens frequently. I've tried doing online searchings about it, but I keep coming up for information on woman with menopause! I doubt that I'm dealing with that....

Could it be because I was sick lately and am still trying to fight off infection? (like a fever here and there)...Or is it quite possible that I could be having hot flashes due to hormones?

Yikes. I need advice before I get all worried about nothing.

Well, you might want to talk with a doctor about checking your hormone levels. I know that when I missed a week's thyroid hormone pills, I ran a 102-degree fever one day and it was mostly due to the lack of meds.

Hmmm, I get those too. I'm your age. I have a whole bunch of other problems, too. I'm supposed to make an appointment with the gyno for a hormonal battery, but the insurance is giving me friggin' problems. Ah, well, I'll not ramble. Considering I've never posted here before =)

Just wanted to let you know you're not alone...

You could get a similar effect from taking too much niacin.

If it is really hot flashes, there are ways to balance your hormone levels, including dietary changes.

hmm i'm 21 and sometimes like a week or so before my period i feel like my head gets really hot and my cheeks get really red, feels like a fever or something. perhaps its just a symptom of pms. :/ i think it'd be best to go to the doctor.

I'm 19 and get hot flashes. They did thyroid tests [I passed], so they decided it was cause of my meds. Apparently in the fine print somewhere, SSRIs cause hot flashes.

i am pretty sure i have hormonal issues, and i have hot flashes quite often during PMS (which for me lasts two weeks) especially at night.

i mentioned this to the doctor last time i was there. just within our brief conversation (i'm going to make another appt. to really get into it, i think) she said it was probably just a hormone imbalance and suggested that the pill would help me. i had my thyroid tested a year ago, and that was fine, btw. i'll let you know if i find out anything - please share if you do. i suggest talking to your doctor, definently - if only to ease your mind and perhaps the hot flashes, since i know they aren't much fun at 3 a.m.!
