i searched extensively in the memories for my specific needs but alas i am here posting, but if there is somewhere else where these answers reside i would love for this post to be deleted and i be redirected.
the facts:
i randomly got a yeast infection yesterday morning and am holding out treating it because i already somehow messed up my discharge after using monistat while not having a yeast infection (is that even possible? because after using the monistat my discharge was significantly thicker since then but not chunky and itchy as it is now). yesterday was also my last pill (Cyclessa) taken for the month meaning i will be menstrating within the next week or so.
i was wondering a few things things:
being someone who has had ONE yeast infection before due to antibiotics and this birth control being pretty new (i've been on it two months so far), could my birth control possibly be the culprit? because this thing was pretty random and i don't like the idea of not knowing how it came about. would it be effective if i put like a drop or two of tea tree oil in my menstrual cup which is rubber to battle this while i'm menstruating? i know it's not recommended that anything be inside you while infectious, but i don't really feel like wearing pads for yet another cycle (i just got the cup the other day) and am really looking for a shortcut. *sillylaziness*
and one final wishful-thinking question:
do yeast infections (hopefully!) have a way of working themselves out? it's a very mild one, but annoying nonetheless. i am really hoping i don't have to use that disgusting monistat again either.
lots of random questions but i wanna know! thanks in advance.. and i'm pretty sure this will be cross-posted.

Date: 2005-06-19 10:54 pm (UTC)It can be possible for birth control to cause yeast infections (usually due to the estrogen in the pills), in fact I can't take BC with estrogen because of that :( . However, it's really hard to always find a clear-cut answer as to what causes a YI. They're tricky little things. Have you been on antibiotics lately? Had sex? Used soaps around your vagina? Sat around in a wet bathing suit or tight underwear? I mean there are tons of reasons, and I totally understand wanting to be able to pin-point it, but it's not always that easy.
YI's can sometimes work themselves out--but they could also escalate, which could cause you a lot of discomfort. I agree with another commenter that sometimes having a period does get rid of the infection, but that would have to be sans-keeper. The keeper will most likely cause more irritation (though I use my Diva even if I have YI's because I love my DivaCup and hate pads...but I definitely pay for it the week after my period). Home remedies include yogurt/acidophilous pills and/or garlic vaginally, and taking a bath with a cup of apple cider vinegar diluted in the water. If you're not used to YI's, see your gyn, she/he might be able to prescribe you creams or pills that can help. Good luck, YI's suck!

Date: 2005-06-20 03:10 am (UTC)sounds like the monistat just working itself out of your system (ie. i think you were confusing the melted monistat cream for your discharge).
yeast infections can "work themselves out" pretty easily if they're mild. keep eating yogurt, or at least take a couple acidophillus pills a day (billion count).

Date: 2005-06-20 04:42 pm (UTC)i have major problems with monistat, so what i do now is douche with tea tree oil and water- it burns while you're doing it, but feels cool afterwards and less itchy. since you want to use your keeper, you might want to try the tea tree oil at night.

Date: 2005-06-20 08:28 pm (UTC)one of my doctors once wouldn't treat me for a yeast infection because she said that it's so hard to find a balance between yeast and bacterial infections once you've had one of them. but she's an idiot. so if you can, i would advice talking to your doctor about attacking it now before it escalates.
