I just got the Depo this past Thursday (the 2nd). I got it on my arm, because I don't like showing my ass (hah big mistake now). But how long until the soreness goes away? I can't even lift my arm =/.

Ick, isn't it awful? I remember after my first shot I had a hard time even lifting my arm to shower that night. It should be better in a couple days, by Monday at the latest I'd say. Make sure you don't rub it. My doctor & nurses were always careful about telling me not to rub it.

A tip? For the next shot just relax. For my 2nd & 3rd, I just made sure I didn't tense up my arm & it didn't hurt at all. I think the first time I was just nervrous about getting the shot so I got all tense.

i dont get my shot like square in my butt cheek, its like a little below my love handles (heh). i've been getting it there for a year and a half so i'm assuming its an okay spot. it does get sore there, but it doesnt impede on using my arm. maybe you could ask for it there? you dont need to show your butt, heh.

I used depo for 9 years, it hurts more in the arm, and it's even worse if you flex the muscle at all. I only got it in my arm once or twice, after that it was always in the hip. It's an intramuscular shot, so you don't have to bare your whole tush. While I was in the military they gave me several doses just in case I was away when my shot was due, and I had a coworker (a medic) inject me. He never saw more of my ass than if we had been in the pool at the gym. You want to alternate sides each time, if you get it in your left hip this time, get it in your right the next, and when they're injecting put all of your weight on the opposite leg and completely relax the entire leg on the side they're injecting. I was never sore for more than a few hours.

it helps if you're completely relaxed when you get the shot. try not to flex any muscles in the area, otherwise you're bound to be sore for the next few days!

a hot compress might help.

when you get a shot, rub the spot they gave it to you on and off for about an hour. Longer, if you feel like it.

It always helps keep me from getting too sore.

I worked in an immunization clinic and we'd recommend ice and Tylenol for post-shot discomfort.

Good luck :)

Took just under a week for mine to settle down completely, but trust me a few days of discomfort is worth the effects.. or so I've found.
