heyy, i'm new and i absolutely love this community! anyways, i have 2 questions:

first of all, whenever i have my period and wear a tampon, the blood leaks down the string! i always think i've used the whole thing and like 'wow i must be really heavy', but when i take it out there's like nothing absorbed in the tampon! i always have to wear pantiliners with them... i use playtex brand... and basically the whole thing is really annoying! has anyone else had this problem and/or any solutions?

also, i was just wondering... ok this is kind of embarassing, but where does everyone's pubic hair extend to... like does anyone else have it around their anus?

and last but not least, a quick rant... omg i think it is the most annoying thing ever to have my period on day 2 or 3, because it's so obvious!! i have to go to the bathroom SO often, always with my purse, and UGH there's like no way to hide it! this especially sucks when 2 of my best friends are guys, and i'm normally with them... they find it slightly amusing, but mostly probably gross, and i find it extremely embarassing AHH!!!

aaaand that is all, thanks ;)

I don't know if you call it pubic hair, but hair around your anus is definitely the norm.

if you're guy friends find it descusting that you have you're period, then they need to grow up. What are they gonna do when they get married? And... you shouldnt be ahamed of habving your period. All girls get it, and everyone knows that. So dont worry about it being obvious.

Whenever I wear a tampon, it leaks like that too. I would always have to wear a pad with the tampon! But now, I use a DivaCup (http://www.divacup.com). You may want to check it out and think about getting one yourself. It will also make it less obvious when you have your period, because you don't have to change it very frequently (for me, only twice a day on my heavy days).

I ordered mine from the divacup website. Their prices are:
United States: US$32.50 + 3.25 S&H
Canada: CA$39.50 + 7% GST+3.25 S&H
International: US$32.50 + 7.00 S&H

You can get them other places too, but I'm not sure of the cost.

You should check out [livejournal.com profile] menstrual_cups. There's some good information and lots of nice people. :)

t's around 35 dollars. But it's way cheaper than tampons in the long run, since it lasts for years. Here (http://lunapads.com/about/value.php) is more info about the money issue. Plus, if for some reason you don't like it, it has a one year money back satisfaction guarantee.

Mine was like 26ish, but I think it was some sort of fluke that I found it for so cheap.

You also might just try a different type of tampon. Different kinds(tampax, o.b.) are made to flare more at the base and can offer more protection. You should try buying a few sample packs, or ordering samples, of each. The diva cup is a good idea as well. I don't like them, but I've heard good things. And yeah, most people have pubic hair all the way around their anus.. it's just how it works. And guys are even worse! I agree with the poster that said those boys need to grow up. Don't be embarasssed. If you really feel you must be emparassed keep your tampons in your pocket or take your purse to the bathroom every day of the month. Boys aren't as attentive as we'd like to think, btw. If they are being rude tell them to get bent. Also, why are you changing your tampon so much? They can be left in up to 8 hours(change it more during the day, but you're usually good to go during the day). You might try a heavier absorbancy. Always use the lightest absorpancy you can to reduce your risk of TSS, but if you are using 'regulars' and you have to change your tampon every two hours it's time to step up on the absorbancy.

Those Tampax Compax are pretty good for keeping your tampons discrete. http://www.tampax.com/en_us/pages/prod_main.shtml?pageid=pd0012

Yes sometimes the blood leaks down the string if I have a tampon in. I just picked one with a different absorbancy and I was good to go. Also make sure you change them reguarly if you have a particuarly heavy flow.

Yes I have hair round my ass. It's normal :)

and I'm in Scotland and I ordered a Mooncup off the net for about £16 pounds I think? Can't remember, but check out the Cups' official sites to get prices.

And your male friends need to grow a pair, it's periods. There is no need for you to be embarrassed. It's just something women have to deal with, and almost every woman around you deals with it also! hehe ;)

You could always try the OB tampons. They're very tiny and discreet, so you can tuck a couple in your pocket and no one knows! Also, if you're leaking a lot, you probably need a higher absorbancy level.. OB has a "combo" box that has 3 different absorbancy levels in 1 box.. for different times of your period, it's kind of cool!

The gross part is, they don't have an applicator, so you have to put it in with your finger.. But I've been doing it for 12 years now, so I'm used to it :)

Good luck! :)

I actually have seen OBs with applicators, but I don't like applicators, and prefer my fingers. TMI. sorry.

Yeah, I've tried the OB's with applicators, and they're annoying.. I prefer the regular OB's myself.. using my fingers doesn't bother me anymore.. :)

I adored those OBs with applicators, but unfortunately they pull them off the market a year or so ago and I can't find them anywhere now. I used to be content with the regular OBs, but the applicators spoiled me cuz of the 'ick' factor. Tampax and Playtex just suck though, so I am back to applicatorless OBs.

I've found that it's not really the tampon itself, it's the brand. "You get what you pay for".
Cheap tampons = Cheap Protection
Try OB tampons. No applicator, but it's no big deal, really. The only time I ever get blood on my finger is if I don't wipe before I insert. (I know that sounds gross, but I didn't go to the bathroom, so psychologically, I didn't have to wipe...lol). They're "cheap", but you get less, but they're worth it!

From: [identity profile] sidewinder.livejournal.com
Try different brands/styles of tampon. There may be one that fits you better than the one you're using now. Some people like OB's, but I never could get used to them--I don't have a problem with the no-applicator aspect, but they just never seemed to fit me right and were always painful to me. Other brands, I never had that problem.

Also, the DivaCup or other menstrual cup may definitely be something to consider, for reasons stated above.

And yeah, don't feel embarassed about your period! If guys have a problem with it they seriously need to grow up because it's something that's just a normal factor of life.

Hah, all my friends are guys.. my best friend, in fact, and I are so close he knows the exact time each month when I get my period, and it always a little nicer and sweeter to me =]

Not all guys find it "gross".

Same here, I hate close "girl" friends. Oddly they don't understand me haha. But yeah, if it grosses them out (which it usually shouldn't,) do what I do to freak them out, be like "Yeah...I have to go change my TAMPON now." It's funny.

I'll get that happening with the string, usually only with Tampax or Playtex though. I'm a huge fan of OB.

I've also got hair migrating towards my anus. ^_^ I used to be paranoid about it too, until I discovered this gallery here (definitely NOT work, parent, or younger sibling safe: http://www.livejournal.com/community/vaginapagina/3167954.html). A lot of ladies shave down there, but just as many simply trim (what I do, though I will shave my bikini line) or let things grow wild. Nothing to be ashamed of. :)

Yeah, always having to carry my purse into the bathroom at work is a major pain. I've actually just found out about tampon cases though. There are some really cute ones here: http://www.uncommongoods.com/fam/fam.jsp?pageId=42

i refer to the pubic hair around my asshole as my bunny tail. because of the angles or something, it doesn't lie flat on the skin and sticks out. sometimes i trim, sometimes not.

Blah, I know what you mean about the tampon thing (although it's actually on the bigger part AND the string). I'm on birth control, my periods last from 6-8 days, and I have to use Super-Plus Absorbency tampons AND a pad. It's not right.
