The Keeper and Monistat: Incompatable, yes?

I'm just about through suffering the slings and arrows of a yeast infection, and last night was my last dose of monistat. I've been spotting a little bit for the past week (I stack my pill packs, and this period will be after five weeks of pills), and there's a good chance that I'll spot enough today to want to use some kind of protection.

I'm a keeper user, and the girl in me who is about to take an organic chemistry final says, "Monistat probably has an organic solvent! The Keeper is make of latex! Disasterous idea! Kinda like condoms and vaseline!" But I really really really hate using pads. And why would they put an organic solvent (an oil or grease) into Monistat if it's so bad for you? I guess if the idea is to help it stick around longer, it's probably a good one.

Anyway. Can I use my keeper, or should I suck it up and use pads? The monistat package specifically says no tampons.

I thought that the Keeper was made of Silicone? Or is that the Divacup/Mooncup? Anyway, if what you are using were made of silicone you could still use Monistat since oil does not degrade silicone, but if it is latex, then I would just use a pantiliner. Or maybe you should invest in a cloth pad for this type of occasion, if it happens often enough.

Diva Cup is silicone, Keeper is rubber

I do believe most of the yeast infection creams have an oily base to keep the active ingredient in. So the Keeper is out- just like condoms and vaseline.

I also believe you aren't meant to wear anything internally while being treated for a YI.

So unfortunately, pads. For both of those reasons.

Have you tried just getting a piece of old flannelette sheet? I've found they're good in a pinch- folded into your underwear.

As far as I know, you use a flannel for washing, and is like a small towel.

Flannelette is the soft stuff you use for warm sheets and wrapping babies.

But I have been told that this is one of those areas where regional dialects come in to play- so use the fluffy cotton you'd use for keeping babies warm :)

try not to use the keeper! It's latex and monostat is oil based. It could cause it to weaken the rubber.

don't use the keeper.... but if you're in a pinch fold a clean old sock into your undies (or cut it to make it fit better) and use that as a makeshift pad until you can use the keeper again. :) this has worked for me in a pinch in the past where i couldn't use my keeper/divacup
