i have a question for my mommy now :)

she's a lovely lady, doing the whole peri, or pre menopause thing. i dont quite understand what that means, but i'm trying. she also has lupus, fibromialgia, etc. she's a damn tough woman, girls. so i'm trying to give her a little more comfort here :)

the question is, when she DOES get her period, it's basically...a river. as she says "it's gush day, girlie, i'm not going ANYWHERE". on the plus side, it's shorter when it's like this. but she's definately severely uncomfortable, and completely out of comission for the day. any ideas for ways i can help her? things that will make this easier, more comfortable? many thanks!

Does she cramp up? If she does, I would recomend heat pads and midol. I swear by heat pads. I get the ones that adhere to clothing and stick them on my underwear- knocks out the worst of my cramps for the 12 hours that the pads work. Midol is also good to take, if it does not interact negitivily with the other drugs I am sure she is on. Other than that, a healthy diet and as much excersise (sp?) as she can stand three days a week.

It sounds like your mom is going through a tough time right now. She is lucky to have a daughter as caring as you seem to be. My thoughts are with you, as is my heart.

a progesterone only pill like nordette would help her to retain the lining tissue or her uterus (that she sheds during her period) so that her menses wouldnt be so heavy. Hormone replacement therapy like femhrt would also be helpful if she wanted to go that route.. otherwise, cold therapy on the site (for vaso constriction) or heat therapy (for general comfort) would be helpful and ibuprofen for relief of an irritated uterus. Good hydration and general good health are also helpful.

I really love rice socks, or rice pads. Sometimes you can buy them that contain soothing aromas so when you heat them they make you feel good in many ways. I would recommend that. Good luck with your sweet Mom ;D
