Well, I just had an experience with my vulva today that I just have to share...and perhaps get some feedback on.
This is sort of odd, but...I've had pubic hair since I was four years old. Has anyone else had this? I know it's very rare, and even though I was so young at the time, I still remember clearly the hospital visits and blood tests I had to have done, because the doctors were afraid I had some kind of disease or major hormonal inbalance. Thankfully, I didn't, and it was just written off as "one of those things". I didn't really care, but the truth of the matter is, I haven't had a bald vulva since before I can remember. And even though I started masterbating when I was six, by then I had the thick, black curly hair most adult women had. My mom encouraged me to keep it clean, but not to shave.
It never really bothered me, until recently. At anime convention I was at, dressed as Faye Valentine (a character with EXTREMELY short shorts) I had a rather...unpleasant picture taken by mistake, where you could see the hair when I was sitting. Then, I had a partner tell me (in a polite way, after I had asked him for feed back, of course!) that he would prefer if my vulva had less hair. The last straw was in Florida, when shaving my bikini line was just not doing enough. So, today, I took some Nair hair removal lotion, a pair of sissors, and a razor to finish off what those items couldn't get.
I now havea short rectangle of hair around my vulva...and I LOVE IT! I haven't really done much yet, but already I'm noticing that I have much more sensation around there. I'm tempted to take it all off.
So, now that you've all listened to my lil story, here's where the rest of you come in! First off, have any of you had pubic hair since pre-pubescent times? Second, do you know of any home remedies to stop itch and irritation of hair growing back? Third....What do you guys prefer...bald, little bit of hair, lots of hair?
Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Date: 2002-08-20 11:06 am (UTC)I got pubic hair when I was about 11, and I've always had a moderate amount. It looks sparser when I'm fatter, and it's always gone down my thighs a little. For a few years, when I was shaving my legs regularly, I shaved where it went onto my thighs, but I don't anymore. I prefer that neat fur.

Date: 2002-08-20 12:47 pm (UTC)I've never taken all my pubic hair off. But I do trim it. I like how it looks trimmed. I have a special pair of scissors that I use and I just trim everything real low and shave it into a neat, triangle shape.
I like the look of shaved pussies, and have thought about it. But I think it can be more hassle than what' it's worth. My pubic hair is very curly, and I have nightmares of in-grown hairs, not to mention the itching. And how often can you get away with shaving before you're getting razor burn ... or bumps.
I think I'll just stick to trimming my snatch, lol!

Date: 2002-08-20 01:06 pm (UTC)In an ideal world, I'd have a little bit of hair. I don't like the vulnerable feeling of a bald vagina :-)
although i didn't have the prepubescent thing...
Date: 2002-08-20 01:52 pm (UTC)to achieve this, i use a combination of wax (sally hansen sugar wax kit) and shaving the underside (there are some places you simply do NOT want to rip the hair from). all in all, i recommend it--i've converted several girlfriends, including a marvelous lesbian couple who now swear by the practice as well, so it's not just a perk for us heteros.

Date: 2002-08-20 05:35 pm (UTC)i cut my teeth (so to speak) on NADS, but i don't recommend it. it's needlessly messy and tends to melt to fast (IMO).
the sally hansen kit features sugar wax in a tube (not the tub kind--it's a NADS rip-off that sucks equally big)...and it comes with 30 cotton-like strips. once or twice i've gotten a batch that was a little too runny--but i've been using it for years and overall the quality has been good. it's water soluable, and requires no heat.
but before you try it anywhere south of your bellybutton, i recommend you get a feel for it by trying a patch or two on your arm, or on legs if you don't shave regularly (you need about 1/4 to 1/2 in. of hair for it to work well).
good luck with it ;-)

Date: 2002-08-21 08:57 am (UTC)1. Trim very short with a mens long hair trimmer on their electric razors
2. Shave in the direction of the hair until you can't feel any spikes whislt strocking down, but can feel them when stroking up
3. shave against the direction of the hair, once.
That cuts WAY down on the irritation (I'm not reshaving the same area heaps) and for some reason when I follow steps 2 & 3 I don't get any bumps or even itchiness anymore. If I skip 2 it's much, MUCH worse.
Personally, I prefer mine trimmed very short. I do like to shave it completely every now and then.
It's particularly great shaved during oral sex (sensation wise it's incredible on the outer labia, and my boy can cover a much wider area without having to worry about hairballs LOL), and during my period.
But, then again, sometimes I love it when it's at it's longest. I feel like a woman (I think this has something to do with growing up and noticing that my mum had pubic hair, and I didn't, and associating it with being grown-up and a woman) :) It's the in between part that sucks.
Oh, and I recommend staying far, FAR away from Nads *cringes* OW OW OW OW OW.
yes yes.
Date: 2002-08-21 09:53 pm (UTC)i like to shave at the end of a hot shower - the hair is softer and easier to shave by then.
and also, though it sounds like a crackpot scheme, try putting stick underarm deodorant on your skin after you've shaved. it cuts back on the ingrowns. it always works for me, but i would also warn you to be careful if your coochie is particularly sensitive. mine is not, but i can see where the perfumes in the deodorant could irritate.
but really - it works.
