Every now and then I get really sick just when my menstrual period starts. My stomach gets upset and I get nauseated and even throw up. I am almost 25. I am in good physical shape. I'm not on birth control but I've had my tubes tied. This has been going on for at least three or four years.Does anyone know what the hell causes this shit?

I've always just thought it was an extra side effect of cramps that just shows up some times...Like diarrhea.

I have a lovely ritual that happens every single month no matter what I do:
Start bleeding, have horrible cramps, get nauseated, throw up multiple times, take Midol for the cramps, slowly go back to feeling normal.

So you're totally not alone here.

Maybe there is something you can take for it. Possibly, and I know this sounds dumb since you have had your tubes tied, birth control pills could help... though if I had had my tubes tied, I would be pretty mad about having to take bc pills.

BTW... your icon... is the spookiest/cutest thing I've seen all day. That's blood coming from her crotch? And little smiling bunnies coming from the blood? Tell me where you found that, if you would. I haven't been so intrigued in a while.

I've heard of something called a tubal syndrome (or similar). Some women who've had their tubes tied end up with a syndrome of really annoying/awful side effects.

pause while she googles

There is this site (http://www.tubal.org/VGHPTS.htm), about Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome, but it doesn't seem to match what you've said.
However, this page (http://members.tripod.com/~sterilization_rights/Symtoms_PTS.html), does say that nausea is included in the syndrome.

I dunno if it applies to you or not, but thought I'd mention it.

I'm impressed you found a doctor to tie your tubes so young! Go you! Way to stand up for your reproductive rights! :)

D'oh! I meant to reply to this eons ago!

You could be right. I don't know either way. A lot of it makes sense to me, but that doesn't make it true. Thought I should mention it, just to give a starting point for further research.

I feel/get sick and diahorrea at the point where my period actually starts too, but after that I'm fine, if a little sore. I am on bc and I've had this since I started my period when I was 14. Can't give you any ideas of what causes it though, just wanted to let you know I have it too.

could it be something like IBS? because thats what i turned out to have after monthly puking with my period. having your period seems to make any little stomach thing worse.

My aunt has the same thing going on, coupled with literally hemorraging every month. So, her gyno is putting her back on the pill even though her tubes are tied.

I'm not sure that's the best thing for you, but maybe you should see your doctor. If it's just some stomach upset and whatnot, I get that too and I just deal it. Though I get really weak and fatigued and my cramps suck because I have alot of large clotting I simply ride it out. Then again, being on Ortho lo has really helped, so again....the pill.

Oy, I feel your pain. I got really nauseated on my pill period last week (my birthday week!), which sucked. Second worst cramps I've had in my life, too, in addition to major, major nausea and diarrhea, and the fact that the pill didn't help much with the amount of blood, either.

I used to throw up multiple times at the beginning of my period, I went to see my doctor and he put me on tablets. Thankfully being on birth control has stopped it, and thus the use of tablets but you might want to consider seeing your doc about it. Apparently it was the massive surge of hormones at the beginning of your period which my body couldn't quite cope with. Hope this is of some help! x

It might me hereditary. My mother got awful periods and now I do too. It's sa bad that I can't get out of bed and go to class/work. Ask your doctor if he can prescribe an anti-inflammatory or take ibuprofin. If you start taking it the second you realize your on your period, and then for the rest of it, then most likely it will calm down. Of course, that's only me, and I'm not a doctor or anything, but I hope I helped a bit.
