I never had any problems other than I've noticed I seem to retain a lot more water prior to finally having my period if I've run two or three packs together... Other than that, no probs at all for me :-)

I don't think that enough research has really been done to determine all the long-term effects. Doctors are kind of split. Some say it may be harmful, some say it won't hurt anything, and some say it may even be helpful.

I don't think that there have been any proven risks, as long as you have a period at least every 3-6 months.

What the former poster said... i.e. it's perfectly safe, but I wouldn't do it for too long at once. (i.e. every few months it's probably good to have a period)I'm actually currently participating in a study of a new b.c. pill which will be (if approved) prescribed as a three month pill. I know their safety stuff is ok so far because the trial was extended. And I love it. LOVE it. My periods are lighter, I don't have them as often, and the only problem is that if i miss a pill in month 3 (and sometimes if I don't) I get some light spotting at about 2.5 months. There was actually a fabulous article in the new yorker about it about 3-4 years ago *rummages online* Ha! Found it. March 13, 2000 p. 52. thanks for posting this--I was wondering the same thing. I've just returned from being at summer camp since May, and I used my pills to skip my period all summer. Started the placebo pills yesterday, in hopes of inducing my period sometime this week. I'm hoping that the skipping won't make this period hellish.
