I have an odd question... I'm thinking of getting an IUD. But, my boyfriend has many genital piercings. We're worried that the strings that hang out of the cervix will get caught on his piercings. We asked my gyno about it today, and she thought it was possible. But I really don't want to mess with my hormones, so that's why I want an IUD. I could get the shot, but then I wouldn't have a period anymore, and I LOVE my period. And I'm on anti-biotics for the next three months, which would decrease the effectiveness of the pill. Anyway, does anyone know if the strings would get tangled in my boyfriends jewelry? Or what other form of birth control would you recommend?

Wish I could help you out. I was going to suggest a condom with sperimicide, but then I was like, "Oh, duh, genital piercings!" :P See, this is why they need to make a damned male birth control pill!

I've used condoms on guys with genital piercings before. The larger sized ones seemed to do well, the ones that have extra baggy heads seemed to work well. It does take a bit more care putting it on though.

Well, we're using condoms right now... But that's the point - we don't want to use condoms anymore. We want some other form of birth control... And I'm allergic to spermicide...

there is also another possibility.
since he is not afraid od needles and such, and you don't want children ever, you may be able to consider a vasectomy

He does want a vasectomy, he's mentioned it before... But we're both 21, and it's kinda expensive...

i have an IUD and the string that is attached to it is very small...maybe 2 or 3 inches. it is made out of a material similar to fishing line and does not hang out of my cervix; it coils around the outside of it. i don't see it really getting tangled in anything at all.
