hi, i currently have my 14th yeast infection. Diflucan has a habit of making myself feel yucky, so i decided to go to K-mart and see what my options were. I ended up with traditional Monistat, which i can safely say did nothing for my cunt but make it burn. i have half a homeopathic treatment left, but i'm not sure how decent it is. My first question is, do any of you know anything about yeast guard? is it effective, or does it sucessfully not do anything? another question- does anyone know of any effective homeopathic treatments that are herbal or DIY? i really want to try something new, and expand my expertise on the subject, considering the fact that my doctors still hafven't figured it out, and it's my body, so i better be an expert on healing it's wounds.

thanx!

14 in how long? There are some things that could be triggering your yeast infections. Some suggestions (perhaps some of these situations apply, perhaps none do) -
Have you been tested for HIV? Diabetes? Both of these can make frequent yeast infections a problem.

Are you sexually active?
Do you used water-based lube? Water-based lubricants usually contain a lot of glycerine which can be a big problem for yeast-prone women. Glycerine is not yeast's favorite food choice, but they like it well enough. Try switching to a glycerine free brand (slippery stuff or liquid silk) or use a silicone-based lube instead.

If you have a male partner who ejaculates inside you without barriers, his semen could be part of the problem. The vagina is normally an acidic atmosphere. Semen is basic. If your vaginal ecosystem is delicate - enough semen can mess it up and make it more basic, and thus more hospitible to yeast. Try using barriers for a while & see if that helps.

Do you use spermicides? Nonoxynol-9 has been shown to increase the frequency of yeast infections of women who use it on a frequent basis. If you're using a non-9 product, try banishing it for a while & seeing if your symptoms improve.

Being on estrogen containing birth control (combined pills, Lunelle, the patch, NuvaRing) makes you more susceptible to yeast infections. If you're using an estrogen containing method, you might want to consider switching to a progesterone only method (minipills, depo, norplant) or a non-hormonal birth control method. If you're not currently on hormonal birth control, this might be something to remember if you ever do decide to go on it.

Do you have a regular partner (or sextoy) who might be infected? Men can get penile yeast infections with few symptoms, and if you have a male partner he could be reinfecting you. See about him getting treated too. Female partners would be almost sure to show symptoms if they were also infected. If you have any sex toys, be sure to wash them well or use them with new barriers every time. Otherwise, your vibrator or dildo (or whatever) could be reinfecting you.

Also keep in mind the general yeast avoidance guidlines, wear cotton undies and pants, stay dry, don't superload your diet with sugar.

Good luck!
