Home from PP
Sep. 8th, 2004 05:02 pmLouise and I are back safe and sound from PP.
Interesting points-
The nurse told me that b/c the patch is low does hormone treatment/contraceptive they recommend you weight less than 190 lbs, because it goes through your blood stream transdermally. Interesting, no? I am fat girl, so no dice, back to Ortho Cyclen 28 for me.
I do have an UTI, but I got meds for it. Hooray! so in 7-10 days I'll be better. Burning during urination=OUCH
The PP closest to my house offers 4 different pills plus the patch, ring, diaphram (with foam/jelly), IUDs & condoms. Anyone here have an IUD? My aunt had one of the Old style ones (15-20 years old copper ones) and the doctors think thats what led to her cancer.
Bonus- When I got home I was putting my pills away (in my underwear drawer, land of contraceptives) and I noticed a little blue package shaped like a matchbook. Plan B aka the Morning after pill. Score!! I was thinking about mounting them in a glass case and hanging it in my room with a little sign that says, "break in case of emergency".
The literature in the Plan B Package (I read everything) notes different groups (age, race, etc) and varying factors/effctiveness. It states: "Geratrics should not take the pill (age 65 or older)". If you are 65 years old and still worrying about being fertile, you need to see a doctor. I can't imagine....

no doctor=iud firmly in place for 20 years
I have no idea what IUD's used to be made from.
Personally I think the irritation on her uteran lining for 20 years is what caused the cancerous cells to grow.
I can't imagine having ANYTHING inside me (save my organs) for 20 years.

Date: 2004-09-08 09:38 pm (UTC)I personally don't know anything about it, only that whenever it's mentioned, it's always in the context of birth control, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing at all against contraceptives. I just thought of the seeming oxymoron of the name, and it amused me.

Date: 2004-09-08 10:01 pm (UTC)the purpose of PP is to PLAN for parenthood, to prevent pregnancy when you don't want it, test for STDs/STIs so you're healthy, both in general and when/if you want to get pregnant, to refer you to resources that can help you when/if you get pregnant, and to council you when/if you want to get pregnant.

Date: 2004-09-09 07:00 pm (UTC)Sadly my uterus was 5 mm too short. Also, the procedure hurt so badly that I threw up on the doctor (who was very kind and understanding and gave me pain medication).
So. IUDs, would, I think, rock. But if you've never had kids before, make sure you get your uterus measured first. It has to be 6.5 mm to make sure the IUD won't be expelled. Also, if you have any narcotic pain medicine, take it about 30 minutes before the procedure. It really hurt, but I think it would've been worth it if I could have gotten one.
