First time bikini waxer
Sep. 8th, 2004 02:58 pmAny advice? I know to take some ibuprofin before hand and not to do it during my period. Other than that is there any way to cut down on the pain of having all my pubes ripped out by hot wax? Is there anything I should find out about my waxer, the tools she uses, the technique before I let her near my bits? Any questions I should ask?

Date: 2004-09-08 04:12 pm (UTC)Another way to help reduce the pain is hold your skin really tight and be very cooperative, because it's hard for the esthetician to hold your skin tight and pull the wax strip off. Make sure to tell her if the wax is too hot because it could burn you. And the hair should only be 1/8-1/4" long. The longer it is, the more it hurts, and the more likely it is to just break the hair instead of removing it at the root.

Date: 2004-09-08 04:35 pm (UTC)1. You want someone who is trained to wax. A cosmetologist or Esthetician are the only two professionally trained folks who can wax. If you have questions about the service provider, ask to see her license, they are supposed to be at their work stations. If it says "manicurist" or "nail Technician" or even "electrologist" they are not trained to wax you. They may be nice people, but not professionally trained.
2. To minimize ingrown hairs, exfoliate the area with a loofah when you shower/bathe. It helps.
3. Tend skin is a splash/toner type of product that can be applied topically via a cotton pad/cotton ball to the area post waxing to relieve the red bumps some people get.
4. Relax. It makes it alot easier and faster.
Hope this helps!

Date: 2004-09-08 05:13 pm (UTC)1. If you've never had anything waxed before, I'd say get your eyebrows done first so you have some idea what to expect.
2. I got a cream called "Bikini Zone" from some place online - it has lidocaine (sp) so offers pain relief. In case you can't find the other cream that was recommended, thought you might like to know about that.
Good luck!

Date: 2004-09-11 10:33 am (UTC)I asked if you'd waxed before because I wondered if you've experienced feeling of having the strips ripped off. Tweezing is totally different from waxing, because for one thing, you're in control of tweezing when you do it, and for another thing, there's the whole "massive pain all at once" versus "little pricks stretched out over time." The feeling of having the strips ripped off is like putting really sticky tape on your body and ripping it off very fast.

I don't think you need to have anything else waxed so you know the pain. Just go in there balls out and listen to what the lady says and take DEEP BREATHS! hehe Good Luck.
