Acidophilus related
Aug. 9th, 2004 10:42 pmIs there any connection between yeast infections and diarrhea? I'm having recurring yeast infections accompanied by or following bouts of diarrhea. I can't get to the doctor for a few days, so I was wondering if any of you ladies had any information.
Also, I just started taking acidophilus supplements orally (as in, I took my first one ten minutes ago). It says it helps with both diarrhea and yeast infections, so I'm guessing both can be linked to intestinal flora? My acidophilus has 8 billion live organisms per pill - is this too many? Can taking such a high concentration be harmful or cause side effects? Also, it says to take them "between meals" - is it okay to take one after the last meal of the day?
Thanks in advance :)

I imagine only a small percentage survives until it gets to the colon where it's meant to be (the passage through the stomach kills most of it - make sure you have a strain proven to survive the trip). I doubt companies would sell them if it was too much bacteria in it. I take capsules at times (if I have a yeastie or am an anti-biotics mainly) but most of the time I just scoff lots of yoghurt.
