My boyfriend and I have been doing dialator treatments since about April. This has been a long and emotional process. He is very supportive and understanding. The place that he works shut down at the end of July and he is going to visit (and possibly stay) with his Dad, who lives on the other side of the country.I am fighting with the choice of taking them back when he goes. I am also interested in getting something from a sex store that is closer to the 2nd biggest and biggest in size.

Any suggestions?

Hey Keri, one of the usual suspects here :)

I wasn't quite clear about what you meant - you're thinking of taking the dilators back to where you bought them? Or considering not using them while he's gone?

I personally enjoy using my vibrator rather than dilators. It feels more sexual and less medical! And, can I just say, if you're getting up towards the 2nd biggest & biggest dilators - then go you!!! That's a fantastic achievement.

Goodness, I had no idea you could rent dilators. It always seemed that there would be hygiene issues. Well, I guess if they sterilise them properly there would be no problem.

Personally, I would advise you not to stop using them while he's gone. Although vibrators can be a perfectly good substitute, one advantage of dilators is having the range of sizes, from small to large. For example, one woman on the Yahoo vaginismus group found the only way she could build up to intercourse was to work through to the biggest or second biggest, then going straight on to sex with her husband.

There are many women who do dilator treatment without having a partner - it can be harder to do on your own, because there's not so much support / encouragement / feeling of intimacy. But you definitely wouldn't want to stop dilation altogether - that could set you back, because the muscles might lose their memory.

Since I'm from New Zealand, we might not have the same ranges of sex toys available. I bought the smallest cheapest one I could find, it was about US$10 I think. The diameter would be less than an inch.

One alternative to buying several vibes would be, one vibe plus some dildoes. If you usually do dilation in a kinda sexual way, you can use the vibe on the outside while dilating with the dildoes. Dildoes a) tend to be more realistic in shape b) are probably cheaper. But, go find yourself a decent, woman-friendly sex shop and have a good look at (and feel of!) what's available.
