hey all... I'm not sure if I introduced myself or not yet, so my name's Tara.
I have a really weird question, but I'm pretty concerned. Tonight, I was with my boyfriend and during our "messing around" he noticed that I had started my period. (how embarrassing) only, I've been on Alesse 28 for like 3 years now, and the only time that I've had a messed up period was because I missed pills or screwed up the timing on when I took them. However, I didn't do this this month and usually when this happens, it's more of a 'dry' looking blood, this wasn't. Does anyone know what it could have come from? And also, is it really true that you have to take your pill at the EXACT same time every day in order for it to be completely effective? Cause I've heard sooo many stories about that. Thanks in advance!

The Pill:

It's best to be as punctual about the pill as you are about any contraceptive, but I've been on it for two years and mistakes happen. A few hours aren't an issue, but if you skip a day you can double up the next day and risk wanting to puke for a while.

I guess the best you can do is get a beepy alarm watch to remind you to take it, or better yet include it in your morning hygeine schedule.

That's why I take mine in the morning. I keep it next to my toothbrush. Try that. You have such a lovely smile in your userpic that I assume you brush every day. :)

Yep. You'll probably feel sick the first day you switch times, but that should be all. Give or take a few hours, like everyone is saying.

that is odd. i am on the same pill, and i have never had that.
you might want to ask your gyno about it.

and yes, you should take your pill at the same time or around the same time everyday. yeah, its a huge pain in the ass, so i take is around the same time.

From what I've heard it depends on how sensitive you are with the pill. Some people it absolutely HAS to be taken the same time everyday. WIth my last pill I had +-5 minutes to take it. WIth the first one I was on it was more like +-4 hours. I have heard that +- 1 hour is very good for someone who takes the pill accurately. Planned Parenthood seemed to really like that answer when I'd go in for paranoia preg tests. Then they'd ask me why the hell I was there.

that happened to me. i have no idea how regular i was about taking it. and thinking about it, i'm not sure it happened to me when i was still on the pill. i didn't get too worried. maybe i should have been. i just figured my cervix was being hit, and there was blood in my uterus that was wanting out, so the bumping of my cervix let some blood out and it ended up on my girlfriends fingers. i dunno. if you find out it's something horrible or some disease, make sure to let me know. that would really suck. i bet we're normal though.

i'm on alesse also, and that just happened to me (tonight, actually :-p). i've been on it for almost two years now, and this has never happened before!
i'm pretty good about taking my pills at roughly the same time, but all of a sudden there were a few spots of blood. however, that was a few hours ago and now that i've went to the bathroom again, they seem to be gone.
perhaps it's just alesse playing tricks with us.;)
