has anyone here ever been diagnosed with CIN 2? it means abnormal cells on your cervix. i have it. i had to get a colposcopy (microscopy thing) and two biopsies taken the other day. i wrote about it in my lj, here and <a href="http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?itemid=11423244&nc=3" target="blank>here</a>. if anyone has been through it, what happened after the biopsy? i get the results in a month. i'm a little worried.

i had cin 1. got a biopsy, everything came up normal. hope the same happens to you...but if it doesn't, there's a mailing list out there about it (and even if it does and you want support in the meantime feel free to join anyway). the people on it are really nice.

I had the Leep procedure done several months ago. The procedure wasn't painless, but I have had two paps since then, all coming back normal.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at jaclyn@inkshop.org.

Go to this link.

It deals with your situation specifically and the future outcomes.

Don't be scared. Many women have abnormal paps. Many women are in your position right now.

i just had that done last month, and i have to geo back, since my biopsy showed more abnormal cells. ungh.
it's not at all painless, like the info says, but it also wasn't as horrible as i'd made up my mind it was gonna be.

and you can request anesthetic, just a rub on treatment that most girls are unaware of.

Yup, I had the run of abnormal paps, a couple of colposcopies that were diagnosed CIN-2 or 3, depending on who read them, and finally a Leep like someone else already posted about. The colposcopies weren't a problem, and the Leep did take care of it (I've had clean pap smears ever since). The Leep left me feeling pretty weak, right afterward, though. It wasn't painful, it was more of a psychological effect. (And no sex for what, 6 weeks or something so it could heal. Bleah)

However, the nice thing about cervical stuff is that whatever's growing tends to grow slowly, so given that you've caught it now, you're in good shape.

That sounds like it might be HPV. A LOT of people have HPV, and it is the MOST common STD in the US, and in a few other parts of the world. I would count on it being that. The link previously posted for the Yahoo! Dysplasia community is a very big help though.

no, hpv doesn't cause all cases of cin. common myth.

HPV NEVER goes away. Some internet information sites state that it CAN go away, but it is pretty much a "lifer" disease. Thank god not a bad disease. It isn't fatal, and it CAN be treated easily.

I had this a couple of years ago and it really scared me too.

I was told by my doc that HPV is the only thing that causes it .. which really upset me because I had only ever been with one man/person at that time who was my current fiance at the time (now husband).

Through research I found out that there are several factors that cause Cin2 and that HPV isn't the only cause.

Hubby and I both got tested and found out that it wasn't HPV. As best we can figure it was caused by concentrated carcenogentics in his sperm because he was a heavy smoker. We weren't using condoms as our main birthcontrol method and I was being exposed to his sperm.

I had the colposcopy ... and yes it does hurt! But it wasn't the end of the world and my results were minimal. Four Pap's later i have been given a clear bill of health.

HPV is not curible ... and does not go away on it's own. Just wanted to make that point clear.

You and your partner should be tested and go from there.... it often goes unnoticed in men.

Best of luck to you ....

It was a couple years ago, so my memory's a little hazy, but yes, I went through the colposcopy stuff, too.

First, a little on HPV. The first pap smear I ever had was "bad." They told me it was "probably" HPV. I've never been tested. However, it is true that most people have some form of it, and that, even if you test negative, you may have it. My understanding of HPV (and I used to volunteer for Planned Parenthood, so I've read up on it pretty thoroughly) is that there are dozens of different strains. Many just sit around in people's bodies and don't bug them at all. Some cause warts. And others cause cervical cancer. Women tend to get it from men, who tend to not be bothered by it. (Even with warts, men can kind of hang out, all warty, and be fine, in many, many cases. Women aren't quite that, erm, lucky.) Getting or giving HPV is something that happens ALL THE TIME without anybody ever knowing it. Get two naked people close together, and whammo, you could be sharing your HPV strains. My partner at the time felt horribly guilty because he was the guy with all the experience in the relationship. But it's possible that I may have even gotten it from my mom when she was giving birth. Most people who've had intimate relationships with more than one person (or with even with one person who fits that description) even have more than one strain of the stuff. It's possible to come up HPV free, but not much likely in these times.

So, longwindedly, HPV is common, and nothing to be terribly worked up about. It's the cervical abnormality that's really the issue.

I had two bad pap smears over the course of six months. Eventually they had me in for the battery of colposcopy and biopsies. I think my CIN was up to 3-4.

I had cryosurgery (an alternative to LEEP). They get in there and freeze those nasty cells off. It did hurt, sometimes pretty badly, and it took a few minutes. (Luckily, there was a nurse there who let me squeeze her hand like mad.)

But it worked. I've never had a bad pap since.

It took about a month to heal. I didn't hurt after the first day or two, however.

At first, they made me go in once every three months for a check-up pap smear. After a year of good cells, I went down to every six months. I still get nervous, but I'm up to one pap smear a year now, which is damn exciting. :)

If you have any questions, just lemme know. I freaked out when it happened to me, and I wish I'd had someone out there to let me know that all roads didn't end in horrible STDS or girl-part-eating cancer. :)

Well, considering I am going thrugh the same things, and have been for three years, it's comforting to see someone who I care about going through and surviving the same thing. Someone I can talk to in my pajamas one day!!

Yes to everything.

And I didn't realize you were still in the throws of it (though I think that once you've had a series of bad paps, you're always kind of going through it. Every time I go for one, I get into a little quiet panic, and then I hope like mad that I'll get the paper slip in the mail, rather than the phone call...)

If you need anything, lemme know. Yup. Including Seattle info...

I know this comment is posted waye after you've had the procedure. And I hope you are well.

I'm a bit fearful 'cause I need a colpscopy biopsy done in about 2 weeks and I was wondering what is the cost of the procedure (minus insurance, I can't qualify).

Thank you.

I have CIN 2 and HPV so I have to receive cervix treatment. How do I tell my new boyfriend of only three weeks? I am really scared to tell him as we do not know each other very well and he might run away. Please give me some advice. Thanks!
