Basal Temperature

Today I just bought a digital thermometer that gives the temperature to the tenth of a degree (94.5, 96.4, etc.). It's just a regular thermometer, so is it one that will give me my basal temperature first thing in the morning, or do I have to buy a specific basal thermometer for that? If so, where do I get a basal thermometer? I only found normal thermometers at CVS this morning.

It's my opinion that yes you do need a basal thermometer. When I was TTC #3, I bought mine at a Shopper's Drug Mart for around $25.00.

Hmm - dunno if we have a Shopper's Drug Mart around here. Does yours work with Celsius too?

yeah you need one that goes to the next like 98.46 I bought one at walgreens for under 10 bucks

I've heard that using a normal thermometer until you can find a basal thermometer should be fine. But you should really get a basal thermometer for long time usage. I've seen them at Target and they might also be at Wal-Mart.

Yeah, I guess I can use mine while I am still getting the hang of it. I'm just collecting data anyway.

I'm in the middle of reading TCOYF, and it specifically says you need to use one that only goes to a tenth of a degree (ie, 98.4°), and that a 100th of a degree (ie 98.46°) would confuse matters. It doesn't specifically say you NEED a basal thermometer, and in fact you should use a regular fever thermometer if you're sick cuz a basla does NOT go up to 100° F
