When I posted earlier about boiling yarrow into tea and it relieving my cramps completely, there were some doubters as to whether it was placebo.

I'm telling you, I have always had HORRIBLE cramps for which I downed Aleve. So the last period I drank the tea whenever I felt the pain and it would put the pain back in its place.

So the next period (right now), I have NO CRAMPS. This has never happened to me, at least not in a LONG TIME.

Inga Muscio, in the book Cunt, mentioned that when one stops taking the pharmaceuticals, one might notice the pain going away. I don't know if that is at all true, and I definitely didn't believe her, but now I wonder.

I've tried the non-medication route before, and I've had to be taken into the clinic, crying in pain. The only way I can get any relief from my cramps is to take the Pill in conjuction with several days of Advil.

But if your pain has gone away, that's amazing! How exactly did you make your tea?

I go the herb route, usually. I drink red raspberry tea, and it works as well at Tylenol, which is what I was using before. I was told that if I drink it all month, then I won't have any cramps at all. I haven't done this, though, so I still get the cramps. But the tea takes them away.

Inga Muscio says a lot of stuff. There are certainly lots of methods of dealing with things that don't involve medication, but medication is still valid treatment, and Inga Muscio.. ugh. Suffice it to say I hated that book.

Because it was packed full of a lot of bullshit, and I spent $15 - which is really not a small sum - on that bullshit. Because she's so sure she's so all-knowing, and it often seems she is completely clueless. It doesn't help that so many people seem to tout it as some sort of Bible for Women. Which I find very, very scary.

I agree that medication should not be the first option, but sometimes it is the only option that will actually work.
