Bleeding after IUD insertion?

I had the Mirena inserted today. There was no blood on the speculum or measuring and insertion rods immediately after the insertion, but I noticed a small amount of blood a short time ago -- it was sort of pinkish and jelled, but I believe that may be because it mixed with the lube they used.
The insertion was incredibly painful, but that could also be because I didn't have the cervix softening medication, and the OBGYN didn't use a numbing agent on my cervix. I never felt like something cut me -- just very intense cramps and pinching.
Is this spotting normal? I've left a message with the office but they've already closed.
Possibly essential facts:
Depo user for two years. (One year Depo, a short stint in the combo pill while I was abroad, then back to Depo for another year)
While on Depo I experienced gradually lighter spotting until my "periods" became nonexistent. While on the pills I had the usual breakthrough bleed.
I've never been pregnant.
I do have a pelvic pain condition that relates to the tightness in the muscles of my vagina, but I doubt that's the problem -- the rods were slim enough so as not to cause any vaginal pain, they just hurt when they got to my cervix.
Thanks!
