Hi folks,
I have made a survey involving gender differences in health for one of my classes, and I would appreciate if you could take it. It is only three multiple choice questions long (will literally take less than a minute).

Thanks!

Today marks the 11th annual Back Up Your Birth Control (a U.S. national campaign to increase awareness of and access to emergency contraception) Day of Action. This year's theme, EC=BC, is dedicated to combating misinformation about emergency contraception.

As you probably already know, we have a Thing against misinformation here in VP as well as a similar mission to combat it.

So today we'd like to know: What misinformation have you heard/read regarding emergency contraception and how have you responded to it? Responding can mean speaking up in that instance, of course, but it can also mean things like doing research to clarify facts for next time.

Please keep in mind that VP's policies on safe space and abortion debate still apply here. We are quite interested in respectful discussion and providing correct facts, not so much in disparaging comments and name calling.

Thanks!
Tori

So this weekend a guy I really like is coming up for the whole weekend and I'm so excited to see him. We've had some dirty conversations and it's implied that we'll probably have sex. I'm so excited, because I haven't felt like this about someone in a while. And of course, I start spotting for the 2nd time in a year.
I have a Mirena IUD placed for BC. The other day I used Monistat 3 day for a yeast infection and now I have a brown/old blood discharge. It's getting heavier, but I'm hoping it slows down by Friday.

So, I ask you superstars:
What can I do to stop the spotting/bleeding? Anything?!?!

and

If I can't have sex, how do I tell him? I really like this guy and I'm pretty easily embarrassed. Any bit helps.
Thanks!

Hi, Superstars!

We wanted to alert you to an opportunity to talk about your experience living life with/after an STI. We thought this might be a good way to share information and personal experience VP-style so readers outside VP's circle might read an empowering and accurate take on the topic.

It's slated to run in Women's Health magazine in July/August. Here is the basic info--please contact Malia directly if you're interested in participating or if you have questions.

I'm a health journalist working on a feature article for a national woman's glossy magazine about moving on and living a full life after an STD. I'm hoping to interview women between the ages of 20-35 who have had an STD like chlamydia, gonorrhea, or trichomoniasis to talk about your experience. The interview would be conducted over the phone and take about 20 minutes. If you're interested in helping out, please contact me at malia@maliajacobson.com. Thanks in advance!

Although comments shared in this post can't be used by Malia for her article, we'd like to open up the conversation here, too. We read a lot here about immediate reactions to discovering one has an STI, but not a lot about the longterm picture. So in that spirit, please feel free to share in the comments what life has been like for you with an STI.

Cheers!

Hello superstars!

I have some questions of behalf of my sister, as I want to take her to the gyno. She's almost 18 and has terrible terrible cramps. I thought I could take her to my gyno to inquire about the pill. She's really shy however and refuses because she doesn't want to show her bits. Is such an investigation needed if she just wants to ask for the pill? I have no advice for her as I've never gone on it myself.

Ugh, I'm 23 years old, and I should know better but this is my first sexual partner so maybe I should cut myself some slack...

So my bf and I have been using condoms for months now (I'm planning to get my IUD put in my next cycle), but he really wanted to try anal sex on Monday night, so we did, without a condom. He had convinced me that using a condom would be more painful because of the latex so I was like ehh all right. I told him not to come in me, so when he was on the brink, he pulled out, put on a condom, and finished with regular PIV sex.

But... I felt nauseous yesterday and today I've been having sporadic cramps. I don't know if it's because I'm stressing out about not using condoms. I don't even know if pregnancy symptoms would show up this quickly.

My mind is just going to all sorts of horrible scenarios, like abortion. I have the familypact plan with planned parenthood. Does that cover abortions?

And what's worse, I only recently ended my period, so I have to wait until almost the end of next month for my next one. When would a pregnancy test be effective?

So, I figure it would be really awkward to ask my mother this, and I really don't have anyone else I could potentially ask, so I thought, eh why not ask the wonderful people of VP since I've been lurking for a few months now.
I ride my bicycle to school and from every day of the week, and naturally, I sweat from it.  My thighs happen to sweat more than the rest of me however, and it gives off a rather..odd smell once my body's cooled off.  Now, it's not something most people would notice, in fact, I think I'm the only person aware of the smell.  But the thing is, I don't know where the smell originates from.  Is it sweat and something else mixing together down there or what?  It's a rather pervasive smell too, my panties and the crotch area of my jeans sometimes start to smell like it too, and it kinda travels up into my hair.  If that makes any sense.
It's not a horrible thing, but it does make me feel a little self-conscious, wondering if anyone else notices it.  Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm posting this question on behalf of a friend -- I hope that's okay. She's trying to get on the pill and is running into a simple yet infuriating problem: the pills come in packs of 28, and her insurance will only allow her to refill the prescription every 30 days. Neither of us have heard of an insurance policy doing that with birth control; it just makes no sense, and clearly skipping two days out of every month (in addition to the placebo week) is not a good idea in terms of maintaining protection.

So... do other people have policies that work like this? What's the best way to deal with it (other than paying for every 14th pack out of pocket)?

She is actually looking to stack continuously (and has been given the okay by her doctor to do so), so ideally she'd be looking to get a new pack every 21 days -- either way, the 30 day limit for refills is not going to be workable.

I'm having some troubles on and off the past few months and I'm hoping to get some thoughts about it
