Hey all...

I haven't had any kind of sexual contact in 18 months. Last November I asked to be tested for all STDs at my annual exam. They tested for chlamydia/etc. at the office and sent me to the hospital lab for blood work. I was told that they would do a blood "screen" at the lab...so I guess my first question is, does that test for everything (HIV, Herpes, etc.)? Both tests came back negative.

About a two weeks ago, I started having neck pains and fever/chills. After a few days, this developed into even worse fever/headache...doctors suspected mono or strep but both tests came back negative. I had to go to the hospital on Friday night to bring down the fever. On Saturday I noticed the inside of my lower right inner labia was a bit swollen...it turns out I have a single, relatively large, white sore there. There doesn't seem to be any redness but it does hurt. Is this herpes? What is happening? I thought I had been cleared for herpes with the blood test...is it even common for a first breakout to occur this long after infection? I am away from home and don't have the means to get to a doctor right away and am nervous.

Thanks for your help!

Posting this on behalf of a very concerned girly, i hope that's ok...

'basically, my boyfriend stayed over last night. both of us are pretty moral, and we're both religious Jews, so no sex, no oral, no handjobs.

but we were both, well, having fun. at one point, fairly late on, he was lying on top of me, and his boxers were soaked with pre-cum, and my knickers with, well, what ever it is women produce. (I had next to no sex ed, I am completely naive. :$ )

I'm really scared that I could have got pregnant from that, when we were touching, even if it was through fabric. Surely sperm are microscopic and in liquid, some fabric is not going to get in their way...

I'm on the Pill too (for medical reasons, i hasten to add), but I'm really bad at taking it, and it can vary from any time between around 9pm to around 11pm or beyond, so I probably have no contraceptive protection.'

~

She also found this link http://www.scarleteen.com/pregnancy_risk_assessment_dry_sex which really scared her.

I've reassured her all i can but you people are so wonderfully knowledgable on here that i thought this was probably the best place to come for advice. I hope no one minds, thank you lots xxx

So I started noticing a thick white, sometimes stringy and watery, sour smelling (non-itchy, non-burning) discharge about 7 months ago.
1) Thinking it was a YI, I went to the clinic at my school to be sure. The doctor agreed it was a YI and told me to use Monostat. Well, I used Monostat 3 times (2 three-day and 1 seven-day treatments) and got no results.
2) SO I made an appt with my primary care physician (because I honestly don't trust my school doctors), who was sure I had BV. He prescribed me with Flagyl, but the symptoms came back within a day or two of stopping the meds.
3) THEN I got a referral to a gynecologist thinking that since vaginas are their specialty, they might know something the other doctors didn't. They also thought I had BV, and prescribed me with a single-day clindamycin cream to put inside myself. For three days the cream dripped out of me and when it was finally all gone my symptoms were STILL there. (For the record, I took the cyndamycin when I was away from my SO, so I did not have sex during the treatment so I know, for this treatment, anyway, that it didn't just get transfered back to me by him; however, I suppose it may be a possibility for the other treatments?).
4) I went back to the gyno 2 weeks ago, and told them my story. The initial BV, Trich, PH and YI tests were negative, so he told me to use Acedic Acid to see if it balanced me out a little.
5) This morning they called me saying I have gardenella vaginalis, and told me to take a week's worth of Flagyl again to take care of it.

AM I CRAZY? I took Flagyl already and it didn't get rid of my symptoms so what makes them think this time is different?
And, seriously, how many appointments and how many copays and how many prescriptions later will they finally figure out what the hell is wrong with my vagina?
What do you all think??

And finally, if my man really does have the infection and is, in fact, just giving it back to me every time we have sex, what kind of treatment would he have to undergo? Would they treat such a thing at planned parenthood (his mom is VERY against premarital sex so she can't know about this)?

first time posting i hope this is ok..

sooo i am confused right now. My periods have NEVER been irregular since I started when I was 13. at the beginning of May I started working out and taking these pills (they are by the Firm.. they're supposed to be taken before you workout to increase stamina and boost your metabolism) and my period came at the right time, around the 12th or so. But it was pretty light and it only lasted about 3 days. Normally i am VERY heavy and they last about 5 days. I stopped taking the pills (i ran out) and i stopped working out about two weeks ago because I needed to study for final exams, but today I randomly started again.. I'm confused! I don't know if I'll started having my periods around the end of each month now, and i really hope not because that would be bad timing (plans i have involving many beaches in the next few months). I don't know if its gonna be like my regular periods, since its only the first day. I have pretty bad cramps which I dont think I had when my period came earlier this month.

Any advice? Anybody know what's going on? thanks in advance guys

Hey VPers! I'm in the business of getting my first Gardasil shot. Now, from what I'm told by my mother (who asked when she was at the gyn the other day), I have to bring the prescription to the pharmacy to get it filled, then bring the actual vaccine to the gyn for her to shoot me up. This is weird to me... every other vaccine I've ever gotten ever has been available in the doctor's office, so Gardasil not being readily available in my gyn's office is striking me as really strange. For those of you who've gotten at least your first Gardasil shot, is this normal??

Hey y'all!

I am a marketing intern for a Planned Parenthood clinic in the Denver area, and I'm in the process of making some little notebooks to keep in the waiting room for clients to write in and read about others' experiences. I want it to be a free-for-all where patients can write whatever they want--their fears, their thoughts, their questions, silly doodles, whatever.

I want to make sure I include a "trigger" warning on the inside cover. I'm going to write a paragraph sort of explaining what the notebook is, stressing anonymity, and warning people that the subject matter could be controversial or upsetting.

Do you have any ideas about how to word this description? Have you seen any good trigger warnings that might jog some ideas for me?

Thanks!!

So I've got two questions, both about the pill.

1) Does it really matter when you start your BCP for the first time? For some reason I thought it didn't but then reread the instructions after taking it for a week and realized that the options both involve waiting for your period. I read on the vulvapedia that quick start is also an option. Why is this not listed in the pill instructions? I'm assuming it's because they want you to make sure you know you're not pregnant before starting the pill, but I'm not sure and was just curious.

2) My doctor switched me to a lower hormone dose (because I was afraid it was affecting my sex drive). This is a pretty trivial question...but...does that mean my boobs are less likely to get bigger again? I know side effects from every BCP differ, but I was wondering what taking a lower dose actually entails. I'm a 32-34A and it was WAY more exciting than it should have been when my boobs grew even slightly larger on the first prescription. They didn't even really change much but wow I was happy to take whatever I could get, haha. Just wondering.

Sorry if these have been asked before..

So, I have had my period twice with a week in between them. I took Plan B on the last day of my period.

This is what happened:
condom broke, he pulled out riiiiight before he ejaculated, we freaked out, got EC the following day.

My "period" started four days ago. The first two days it was like man-the-sandbags-a-flood-is-coming flow. I had to change my tampon every hour and a half or so and since halfway through the third day, there has been absolutely nothing except for the dark brown blood, and very little of that. Could this be decidual bleeding? The chances of my getting pregnant were so slim already and the added EC should have made it even smaller, close to nonexistent. I'm aware that EC can make periods strange, but two in three weeks and the latter being so wonky?

My boyfriend's mom said that all this blood meant I had a miscarriage and I was like wutttt, no way. So, I don't know what to think. I don't even know when I could take a pregnancy test after all this craziness.

I'm setting up an appointment to get a full exam to make sure everything is okay down there and get a birth control prescription at Planned Parenthood soon. I just need some piece of mind before that.

Hello all!

I had some minor surgery (wisdom teeth removal!) on Thursday and was supposed to be getting my period this week. I normally get it the Monday or Tuesday of my placebo week, yet I have no PMS symptoms nor any sign of my period.

I know that when you're under stress, or experience changes, that your period may come late, but what about surgery, even minor? Should I just not even expect it this week? I'm also on a course of antibiotics, would that delay my period at all?

I'm also getting a tattoo (my first!) on Friday, if my period does come, will it cause any problems at all? I know it's a little far-fetched, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Thanks!

Howdy, VPers! Just announcing a new rule about the use of macros in VP.

The short version is: please don't. ;)

If you'd like more information about our reasoning or would like to offer your feedback, feel free to swing by this post in [livejournal.com profile] contact_vp.

In the past I've always used condoms while on HBC, so I've never thought about this issue at length, but since I'm considering using condoms as my sole birth control method, I've become obsessed with correct/perfect condom use. So far I've only ever read that it needs to be put on the erect penis. However, I wonder if you're supposed to put it on *before* any precum has been produced? I would guess so, since precum on our hands and the penis would get on the condom, which would pose a pregnany risk, but I've never been able to come to a conclusion on this based on other sources I've read.

HBC and dry eyes? )

If worst comes to worst and the condom breaks, does anyone know if I'd be able to easily get Plan B as a foreign national? Since it is OTC, I'm guessing that it shouldn't be a problem? At least my b/f who is a US citizen should be able to buy it for me?
