I recently JUST got rid of a month-long battle with a yeast infection and then had to go on antibiotics for an infection. Now, it's back in full force. I really don't want to have to use Monistat like I did before (I had to use two 7-day treatments). So, I was going to use acidophilus (is that how you spell it?) method and insert the capsules.

Last night I inserted two. I woke up this morning and inserted my finger to make sure they had dissolved - but they were both still intact and hadn't dissolved whatsoever. This had happened to me before the last time I tried this method and then got frustrating trying and just went and used Monistat.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Is my vagina just not warm enough to dissolve it? Or is mine just too dry when I have a yeast infection? Is there a way I can still use this method? I read somewhere to dissolve the capsule in water and soak a tampon in the mixture. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks for the help!

Edit: (Since I obviously didn't write this smartly enough) Okay, so mostly I just decided to share this with you lovely folks 'cause at least for me it's really, honestly true. Maybe by separating my socks out I've eliminated the integration of bacterial and microbial irritants, or maybe it's something else. Whatever it is, for ME, there has been a distinct and quantifiable shift in my YIs since I've done this. It's entirely possible that other factors are at work here; I totally don't discount that.

What I am saying, though, is that it's possible this does have some sort of impact on it, and if people ARE washing their undies and dirty socks together, it might make some positive impact on their YI track record too to separate them out as it did for mine. I'm obviously no doctor, just a college kid who gets YIs every now and then, and I wanted to share something that is a factor for me. If this isn't the case for you, I am so glad for you because, really, I don't wish this on anyone. :)

Original Post:
So I've just finally figured out why I get yeast infections outside of the usual "I'm-taking-antibiotics-for-this" pattern.

If you have a habit of washing your dirty socks with your regular laundry and underthings, chances are you are going tomight transfer any and all bacteria and fungi you pick up with those socks to your undies and as a result?

YI'S FROM HELL.

Be extremely careful in particular if you were wearing socks in a hotel room for a few days. That's where I got mine because I was dumb and lumped all my vacation laundry together so I could save money (I live in a dorm) and now not even acidophilus tablets nor monistat seem to be having any effect.

So, from one V-Sister to another, wash socks separately at all times and use bleach if they're white! Same goes for undies; wash 'em separately, just in case. Your V-Jay will be soooo grateful.

And now for a question: the extremity of this YI has caused the little section below my VJ to feel dry, sore and sliced open. Would putting KY jelly on that area to give it some moisture be a super bad idea? What else can I use to relieve the itch and the pain if I have no access to tea-tree oil (which I'm allergic to anyway).

Diva Cup

So I've heard a lot of great things about the Diva cup on here and I felt like trying it out myself. I just bought one and I totally can't get it to go in. And when it does, it doesn't pop all the way open. I read the directions numerous times. Anyone have any tricks or pointers that might help me. I'd had to think $30 just went to nothing. Thanks!

Right. I've had a yeast infection for around six months now, and I just can't seem to get rid of it. Every time I think it might have gone, along comes the familiar itching and discharge. I've tried every over-the-counter product known to man - creams, pessaries and tablets - so I thought I'd turn to you lovely ladies. Every morning I have probiotic yoghurts; I do wear cotton pants and I'm trying to avoid wearing jeans. I do, however, take HBC - could this exacerbate it?

Note: I've been tested twice, and it is definitely a yeastie and nothing else. Also, I live in the UK, so we can't get Monistat here. Unfortunately.

EDIT: I can't spell. I DO wear cotton pants. Oops.

I'm concerned because I have what looks exactly like a pimple on my labia.  I had another one last week just above my clit.  It doesn't hurt, but it itches a little, and I'm worried it could be herpes, although I have no idea who I would have caught that from.  I left a message for my doc, but in the meantime, what should I do?  Does this sound like herpes?  Can one get a pimple on her vulva?
[identity profile] goodluckcharlie.livejournal.com
This just recently started....

My clitoris itches, and the labia above it. When I look at it, it looks really red. I have been eaten out by my boyfriend a couple of times, but the last time that happened was on the 12th, and my clitoris started itching the 14th. Could there still be a connection here? My boyfriend doesn't have herpes or anything.

Edit: I didn't mean any harm putting 'clean' I apologize.

so yesterday i got "caught up in the moment", REALLY caught up in the moment, with my fwb. we had been hinting about how bad we wanted it all day so when he drove me home after work, ran into my room, and he realized he forgot the condoms we just decided to go for it anyway... which didn't last long because we realized what we were doing and all the sudden got the "oh shit bad idea" vibes at the same time, laughed about it and stopped, put our clothes back on, and played video games.

what do you think my chances are of getting pregnant from this? for some reason i'm not worried about it, at all. of course i'm probably in denial.

should i get plan b? would you get plan b if you were in my shoes? how long can you wait after sex to get plan b and still have it be effective?

I am taking Lutera (HBC) and have been since November. I am currently in the second week of the pack. My boyfriend and I usually use condoms, but there are times when we haven't. Both of us have been tested and have no STDs. We're (ahem) rather sexually active...averaging about 3 to 4 times a day. haha.

My questions arise from the symptoms I've had for about that past week. I've been getting awful headaches almost everyday, and have been sleeping up to 15 hours a night. (normally, I sleep 8-9) For the past 3 days or so, my vagina has been incredibly sensitive to the point of pain if touched. I tried using a god-awful amount of lube, but to no avail. This has been accompanied by mild cramping and light bleeding. The bleeding only lasted two days, and was very light in color as opposed to the usual dark coloring during my period. Today, I started feeling slightly nauseous.

Am I getting sick? Is this some kind of infection?

Things that might also be helpful: I have clinical depression (unmedicated) and generalized anxiety disorder (also unmedicated).

If you need any more information let me know. :)

vag issues

So, i've been looking through the archives and the actual website with no avail as to what is going on with my vag! Yeah, i think my vag is freaking out. Lately it has just smelled "off" I won't say terrible or anything, just different. I had protected sex about a week ago. I believe I am allergic to latex condoms, and we did use one. I'm not itching, i have no sores or discoloration. The last time I had a yeast infection it was about a year go, and I found out through my gynecologist when I was getting a pap smear, which caught me by surprise as well because I had none of the typical symptoms. So I am just at a complete lost at what it could be. I went off and bought some monistat just in case it is like the last time and I have a stupid yeast infection. Any input would be totally appreciated.

Hello ladies,

I have an issue. PIV sex is great with my current partner, I come vaginally all the time. But I've *never* had a clitoral orgasm with a partner, just by myself with toys/manual stimulation. What partners do to my clit feels really good, there's no denying that, but I've never orgasmed from it, with any partner (I've had 3). Now my first two partners, I was very submissive and they were very controlling, so there was no communication, and as I was coming vaginally, I just let things be. But with this partner...there's lots of lovely communication, he's great. Except in one area.

He...prides himself in his oral sex abilities/technique. Which, regrettably, does not bring me to orgasm. Oh, it feels good, but he's putting pressure on me to come, and I can't seem to.

The other night he was fisting/fingering me, and I almost got there, but his arm started hurting and he stopped. *sigh* I've shared with him what *I* do to get myself off manually, hoping that would help, but...sharing verbally seems to not do much good, he just can't seem to move his fingers the same way. I've tried reaching down and *showing* him, moving his fingers for him, but the angle was all wrong and I wasn't able to succeed.

So, my questions are:

1)How do you gently break it to your partner that what he's doing orally just isn't getting anywhere?

2)Any tips on why I don't seem to be able to have a clitoral orgasm with a partner?

Thanks ladies!

Right, so I've got a yeast infection brewing, and I can't get to the doctor until next week -- but I'd like to take care of it before then, because it will drive me CRAZY if I don't. (And since I live in a foreign country right now, I don't have access to the usual over-the-counter meds.) Also, I'm pregnant, so I'd like to handle this naturally, if possible.

So, I've got some good plain yoghurt, but I can't seem to get much into my actual vagina. I don't have tampons or any kind of "squirty" tool at hand.

I read somewhere that you can freeze yoghurt in ice cube trays and insert it that way, which sounds perfect to me. But wouldn't the freezing kill the good bacteria that make yoghurt effective in the first place?

If there are any science folk out there who know the answer, my poor poor vag would thank you!

uhm yesterday i had pretty rough sex for what to me felt like a long time. .which was probably only 20 minutes. .well about five minutes later i went to the bathroom to pee and i wiped and there was this clear, stretchy discharge. .like snot? is that normal. .? i was thinking it was because he uses uhm his spit for lube and that's what it could've been. .kinda freaked out for a second that it could've been semen but it didn't really look like it to me. .also; using spit for lube. .is that a bad idea :/? and on top of that. .my vag still kind of stings. .i've never had it so rough before so i'm thinking maybe that's what it is. .but i'm never sure :/ is that normal??

Hi :-)

I'm going back on the pill after a year or so of ring use. The main reason I went on NuvaRing is because I was having trouble remembering my pills. After some troubles I'm back to the pills again.

So, I'm wondering...

What do you do to remember to take your HBC on time? Any tips for someone who forgets? Also, how did you pick your time? I can't decide if I should do evening or morning!

Thanks!!

So I have a bit of background to go into, but the main question is can stress cause breast tenderness?

I have found a lump in my breast, which I got checked out, and some ultrasounds and stuff, my doctor said he didn't think it was anything to worry about. I mentioned the tenderness to my doctor, and, aside from asking if I was pregnant, didn't really address it. The thing is, it's not just the lump that is painful; it's the most of both breasts, around the upper outer parts.

I don't think I am pregnant. This pain is kinda off and on. It started in October, I think, and was basically nonexistant the week after my period. After that, it kinda has a build up, becoming increasingly painful, until my period. It stopped while I was on Christmas break and most of this semester. It's just begun again this past month. I have a very regular 30-31 day cycle, about down to the day. I am not on birth control. I am sexually active, but we are religious about using both a condom and the Today sponge. A few weeks ago, I went to the gyno, and when he was checking out my internal goods, he didn't say anything, although he never asked if I was sexually active. Plus, I got really worried in December about it, and took an at home pregnancy test. My pee wasn't much but it was super concentrated, so the test wasn't under the stream for the alotted time. It was negative. Plus, I've noticed that the pain tends to be during the times when I am most stressed.

Given these, I can only come to one conclusion: that this is caused by stress, and I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this, and if there was any way to help it.

I'm in a very stressful situation right now. I graduate in 3 1/2 weeks, and I'm a 7-12 math education major, interning. My supervising teacher is crazy. She and the requirements of my degree are really getting to me now that it's crunch time and I have to get everything done. Plus, our students are cramming for the end of course exams, so that's putting additional strain on us.

Thanks a bunch. I feel better just typing all this out, and I must say, I've been a lurker for a while, and you ladies are AWESOME!

hi all.

ok, a quick question. it seem like my vag is a target for getting bacterial vaginosis pretty easily. HOWEVER, i have begun to notice that it quite often starts right after i have my period. i know having your period throws off the PH levels in your vag, but my question is- is there anything i can do to prevent this? i use tampons, should i maybe start using pads instead? i'm also on the pill, could it be related? i've ALSO been under heavy stress lately, maybe this could be the cause...?

i was treated for BV in november of last year and i was so happy that it hadn't came back... but now here it is again, or so it seems. the only way i know is by this weird distinct smell. not fishy, just distinct.

thanks in advance.

Hi gals and guys.  Long time lurker here bursting onto the scene with a pee question!

I went into the ER at the end of March with painful, frequent urination and blood in my urine.  Doctor said it was a fairly severe infection.  Did my full course of antibiotics.  The symptoms, I thought, subsided almost entirely after a few days but still had a lingering symptom--increased sense of urgency/frequency that slowly got worse and worse after stopping antibiotics.

Went in to the health clinic about a week after stopping antibiotics.  They found a very very small amount of bacteria present in a urine sample.  They said they were going to culture it and call me (they never did...bad me should have pestered them about it).  The doctor gave me a prescription for a different antibiotic.  Everything seemed to be getting better after this round of antibiotics was done...until a couple days ago.

Last night I had to pee quite often...every hour and a half or so...but made it through the night.  Today I've only peed a few times but each time...not very much.

I've recently picked up the habit of drinking coffee.  A few days after antibiotics were done, I figured it was safe to return to caffeine...   I haven't had any today!  I've learned my lesson!  But maybe this could be causing UTI-like symptoms?

So!  Is it likely a third UTI in a row or just the coffee?  Does anyone have experiences with back to back UTIs?  Should I be having residual symptoms/problems after a UTI?  I'm frustrated because I've been doing everything recommended to prevent a repeat infection--cranberry juice, hygiene, no sex, etc.  I'm going to try to get into the student health clinic again tomorrow (even though I would really like to avoid it...) and would like to be armed with as much info and questions for them as possible since you only have a few minutes to speak with a doctor.  Thank you all so much!

This is posted under a RP-Journal for privacy purposes.

Moving on, my boyfriend and I are both virgins and both our first sexual partners. Usually I go to lengths to avoid any potential pitfalls-using condoms, thorough handwashing, etc., but still I end up worrying.
