(I tried posting this in [livejournal.com profile] birthcontrol and [livejournal.com profile] thequestionclub first but haven't gotten much response, so thought I would ask here, too.)

Ok, yesterday (Wednesday) around 11:30 am I went to my appointment to get a pill refill. I have been having an ongoing problem with lack of sex drive, so once more they decided to have me try a different pill. I was recently on OTC (after coming off OTC Lo) and they switched me to Ortho Cyclen. I would normally start my new pills on Wednesdays, but the nurse said to wait until Sunday to begin the new pills since I am on my period (I usually bleed the first and sometimes second day after beginning a new pack) and to use back up BC for a month. Well, she always tells me that and I just take the sticker to set a new start date out of the instructions and make it so I can read it to start on Wednesdays without getting confused. I briefly looked over the new packet, but there's no stickers to change the day - but it does say you can begin on a different day than Sundays. I got frustrated and went to sleep because I had been up over 24 hours. Normally I take my pills around 4pm-ish, but I was thinking about what she said and the lack of the sticker and passed out. But then I was reading and all the active pills are the same, so I realised I *can* just start on Wednesday and follow around the pack like normal, I just won't start at the top middle like normal. So I took the one for Wednesday (around 6 am-ish) and will take today's (Thursday's) at my usual 4pm.

Now I am worried about the extra 14 hours between when I was supposed to take it yesterday - should everything be ok? I know on the OTC website it says if you're switching different pills all in the OTC family, you don't have to use back up but I am worried about my small time gap. The nurse was old and cranky about my hesitance to wait almost a week to start new pills, so I wanted to ask you guys and hopefully get some help without having to call her and admit I didn't listen to her because I don't want my periods on the weekends (I've been slowly changing new pill pack start dates to configure the No Bleeding on Weekends Schedule I desire, lol!). Thanks in advance for all the awesome help!

PS - I was scouring the info insert and it does say to use the stickers to change your date but I don't have one. I don't know if the nurse threw it away when she put my pills in the dispenser or if they fluked and didn't include them or something. I really just need help with deciding if the time gap will be ok once I am on a regular schedule. Please help!

I thought you all would get a kick out of this...

Last night, around 1am, I was desperately looking for my vibe. I knew I had left it in my bed (and I live alone so, other than my cats, there's no one that could have moved it) but I couldn't find it! I got so frustrated that I took off my bed sheets, looked under my featherbed, and even scoured under the bed. Finally I gave up and used my trusty hand to do the job.

This morning I threw a load of laundry into the wash, straight from my laundry bag...anyone see where this is going?? The load just finished and lo-and-behold when I was moving my clothes from the washer to the dryer my Waterdancer vibe was lying at the bottom of the washing machine. I picked it up, twisted clockwise, and BZZzzzzzzz!!! It still works!! I know it's meant to be a waterproof vibe, but damn, surviving a load of laundry was definitely not in the product description. I still have no idea how it got into my laundry bag, but woot for sturdy waterproof vibes!!!

I know a doctor can't necessarily tell, from the state of your genitals/hymen, if you are a virgin or not. However, I've always been a little curious about my hymen. Would my gynecologist be able to tell me anything about mine, if I even had one?

I don't remember ever having had one. I've used internal menstrual products (first tampons, then cups) since I was about 12 and probably masturbated with penetration since 11ish and there was never any problem or actual breaking of anything that I could feel, as well as no bleeding from breakage. Anyway, from this community I understand that the hymen, once it is broken, never really goes away completely. So when girls are born "without" hymens, is there really no hymen whatsoever, or did the hymenal tissue just never fuse together across the entrance to the vagina? (Hopefully this post makes sense, as I am running on about five hours of sleep.)

This community is vagina and girl positive. And we always see things like "Uch, I have a yeast infection," or "Shoot, I have breakthrough bleeding." but we rarely see positive things about vaginas, womens health and just overall being a girl.

This past summer, I was at summer camp, and there were 10 girls in total. Sure, there were TONS of sympathy periods, but we all loved being together. One night, we had nothing to do, so we decided we were going to have a full out girls night.

and this is what we did. )

I brought this up because I think every girl, no matter your age, should have a girls night and just be totally yourselves and not afraid of anything. Also, for other people wanting to do a girls night, please comment and include your ideas.

Two questions...

I read the YI archives for preventive measures--boric acid capsules and acidophilus yogurt/pills... has anyone actually had experience with these? Does it work? How many YIs did you have prior, and how many after?

Vagisil max strength anti-itch creme.... I've got this weird suspicion in the back of my head that it breaks down condoms? Did my mind just make that up or is there any truth in it? I feel like I've heard it somewhere, something about vagisil.

OK VagPagers, I've got a question about toxic shock syndrome.

I'm aware that you can get TSS from using a tampon.. from the tampon box. The subject was never discussed in my health class or in any sex ed program. What is TSS? What happens to you?

Now, the box says that you shouldn't keep a tampon in for over 4 hours. I frequently wear a tampon longer than that, especially if it's at the end of my period.

It's not that TSS is over my head, but it's up there.. and I'd like to get a little more information out on something I think we all need to know a little more about.

Alright, I looked through the archive and looked for the answer to this and didn't see it.

This summer I have had three ear infections. I have my third one now. And each time they have given me a form of amoxicilin. Each time I have gotten a yeast infection. This time I thought I'd be smart and pre-emptive. So I bought a bunch of cranberry juice, yogurt, and those Azo yeast tablets. And I've been taking the tablets as directed. I started the antibiotics yesterday. And sure enough, I've got that itching sensation.

I've already bought the monistat. So, my question is... do I use it tonight, or wait until the end of my antibiotics in ten days? If I use it tonight, will I just get another YI?

Thanks a lot.
