Dryness. Itching. Painful intercourse. WHY?!?!?!

Okay, I'm wondering if anyone knows what is going on with my vagina and why it's happening and how serious this is/could be...

A few weeks ago, I was having sex with my boyfriend, and we both noticed I was considerably dryer than usual... Not really a problem, but it kinda hurt when he started to go inside me...

He lives a few hours away from me, so I don't get to see him very often. Last weekend, the whole dry thing happened again, only this time it was very much worse, and it hurt like I was losing my virginity to Ron Jeremy right at first.

Ever since then, it's like my vagina has ceased to produce any moisture at all, except for every once and awhile leaking out this strange, normal-colored, odorless, really thin discharge. Did I mention it itches horrendously, too?

I haven't had unprotected sex in so long I can't remember, and I've tested clean since then, so I'm pretty sure it's not any weird disease... but what IS it? What can I do to make it go away?

Possible bits of relevant info: I'm on birth control (Ortho Tricyclin Lo), I smoke (I know, I know, spare me the lectures of doing both those things, I have like three cigarettes a day, tops), and I also take Temazepam (kinda like Valium or Xanax) to sleep at night... I don't know if any of that would cause this... but I figure it can't hurt to mention.

Any helpful ideas?

pelvic exams and big honkin' IUDs

Can I just ask quickly how common it is, in the experience of the members here, for a doc to stick her finger up your bum during your pelvic exam? At my recent visit, she did, and said it was to feel the vaginal walls from the other side. At the previous visits, I was too panicked and in pain from the speculum to be sure if that's what she had been doing. By the way, it's been suggested here and it works: do ask your doctor if s/he can try using a child's sized speculum, or one size smaller than you think s/he is going to use, if you're concerned about discomfort from a larger speculum.

Also, when I was at the gyno, she had an IUD sample set against a drawing of a uterus in a little case. And the IUD, in comparison, looked freakin' HUGE. Like, it spanned the whole uterus. How big is the uterus, and how big are IUDs in relation to it? (Sorry if I've asked before, can't remember if I posted about this or not.)

I really hope *someone* knows what's going on...

A little insight into what's up..

My S.O. and I have not been able to "hook up" because he moved to Louisiana (I'm in Texas) to join another band that is doing really well. Well, he has a show coming up in Houston (I'm in Austin) and it's next month and I just wanna be able to BLOW HIS MIND!

Here come my questions...

I want to smell good...my skin, I want to feel baby skin soft to the touch and have nice clean pretty smelling skin *lmao* Call me a dork but we just get THAT intimate. Do you wonderful ladies have any ideas as to what body lotions are the best for keeping the skin super soft and smelling REALLY good?

I know certain foods make you taste different and I'm generally a healthy eater and always eat fruit, but I'm curious as to what foods would make me "taste" the best? Pineapple maybe? I wanna start eating whatever it is that will be the best now (daily) so by the time I see my S.O. again, everything will be fantabulous! *lol*

How long do you guys usually have to wait to get in to see your ob/gyn, or Planned Parenthood?

I've called around pretty much everywhere I could possibly get an annual exam and the best I can seem to find is an appointment for Sept. 5th. Is this normal? I ran into the same problem when I needed to find out if my bumps were genital warts. You definately don't want to wait a month to find out if you have an STD or not, but that's what I was being told everywhere. PP had a cancelation, and that was my only salvation. What's your experience? Is Tacoma just not adequately staffed or what?

I just got back from my worst pap smear experience EVER, but I'm sure there are more to come since I'm only 17.

Anywho, the only thing that I heard her say was that my uterus is tipped.
Does this mean I won't be able to bear children because I hear people say they can't have kids because their uterus isn't in the right spot or something.

The doctor didn't seem alarmed about it, but she was also a bitch... but I'm just worried because I would be crushed if I can't bear children due to a "tipped uterus".

What vitamins/minerals do you suggest a healthy 23-year-old woman take? My diet is improving--I'm gradually eating more fruits, veggies, and whole grains and trying to cut down on the sugar and red meat. I'm currently taking a multi-vitamin, calcium, vitamin C.

urine culture results

I wrote a few days ago with a possible uti.


And i went to the doc and got a test. Said i had an infection. Sent it in for a culture.


Culture came back negative. They said i have no infection, and that it was just contaminated (i suck at taking clean samples)



My symptoms have almost all disappeared. Is it possible to have had uti like symptoms just from dehydration and soda drinking (i was barely drinking any fluids and now i'm drinking 64 oz. of water every day)????

Another quick question about cysts.

I started having pain with this cyst a year ago. Before that i liked to have sex ALL THE TIME and i would masturbate frequently. But just after the pain started i found myself in a new relationship that is going very very well. But i do not have any desire for sex or masturbation. When we do have sex it is very good. And i find my partner to be very sexy and desireable. I don't even get wet like i used to.

Could this be some kind of hormonal problem due to the cyst, or is it something else? Does anyone know of any medical evidence for this, or have experienced something similar.

Two waxing-related questions

I have two semi-related questions. One just out of curiosity and one being for a recommendation.

1) What is a California wax? I was leafing through one of those "collegiate coupon" books and found an ad for some salon that is "famous for [their] Brazilian and California waxes." I know it's a kind of bikini wax, but I can't seem to find anything on google that explains what places the hair is removed from.
edit: A phone call was made, and apparently a California wax is everything except a landing strip, according to Total Skin Care in Boston. Thanks for the replies!

2) I've been prodding my friend Nicole to post here, but I figured I was posting today anyway, so I'd save her the trouble. Anyway, does anyone have any recommendations for a good place to get a bikini wax in:

nuvaring + divacup = bad?

A friend of mine (Hi!) asked me this, and I wondered the same thing, so I thought perhaps I'd make a post of it!

If you are on the nuvaring and use the divacup, is it ok to use them simultaneously? My period is usually over by the time I need to put the ring in, but not always. I'm thinking the divacup might interfere with hormone absorption. Does anyone know for sure?

The Pill and Mood

I'm currently thinking that I'm going to stay off the pill for awhile. I forgot a few days in a row really close to my period and decided to get off of it entirely for awhile.

Does anyone have any experience or know of anything where the pill was linked to your mood? I usually have a very up and down series of emotions at least once a month. It's either right before, during or right after my period. This time, I never got depressed, in fact I've been feeling better than ever. Coincidence or could the pill have been causing more intense mood swings?

I have a few questions regaurding the hymen.

I've googled and looked at the memories, but I still have a few questions.

1.) How can you tell if your hymen is broken or torn?
2.) What does a hymen look like exactly, I've looked at pictures.. but all women are different and I don't really look exactly like those women
3.) My hymen (or what I think is my hymen, looks kind-of like flower petals or chewed bubble gum completely covering the entrance of my vagina (which is very small).. I can't even see the hole. (And no, its not my labia) and its very very sensitive when it's touched.

4.) I was also told that the hymen is reddish, mine is pink.
