I've come down with bronchitis again, and have been prescribed an antibiotic (this time, Zithromax.) As a habit, I usually ask the doctor and the pharmacist whether or not there are interactions between whatever I've been prescribed and my oral contraceptives.

Frustration occurs though when I get inconsistent information. The doctor today tells me "no" the pharmacists says "yes" and one drug interaction checker says "no" while another says "yes" there is an interaction.

(My habit by the way is to use back up contraception when I'm on an antibiotic.)

I really don't like the inconsistent information-it's distressing. I have the information, and knowledge to make an informed decision, but not everyone does, or would think to ask.)

has anyone tried vaginal contraceptive film? what have your experiences been like?

Okay so I guess I should have paid attention more in sex ed. Is it possible to get pregnant while you're on your period? I had sex yesterday and he came on me and I think some got inside of me. Well I have weird periods. I've been spotting for about 4 days now and today is the first REAL day with flow. So.. Could I get pregnant??? I'm so scared!
[identity profile] hurrdurdurdurrr.livejournal.com
so i'm really scared right now...
i've been scared this whole week :X

i went to the doctor on monday becuase i thought i had a UTI...
they took a urine sample and tests came out negative...
so they made me goto the gyno...

she took some swabbs and did some tests...
she looked under the microscope and said she saw some yeast...
so she prescribed fluconazole... the one dose pill to treat yeast infections...
but she said that shes going to send some of the other swabbs to be tested for clamidia and gonorrhea cuz its customary since clamidia and gonorrhea are so hard to spot and have the same symptoms...

there are reasons i could have a yeast infection.. like i had to take antibiotics a few weeks ago b/c of a UTI... and i am on birthcontrol...

but for some reason i'm still so scared about those test results for clamidia and gonorrhea... they still haven't called... and when i called they said they'd call back...

i've been w/ the same person for a year... but it's been long distance for half of the time because i'm away at school... but i do trust him and don't beleive he'd cheat on me... and also then lie about it when i told him about what happened...
i took the medication to get rid of the yeast infection (if thats what it is...) on monday and i guess the symptoms kinda improved... but i still have to go pee all the time... and my symptoms have been going on and off before i even took the medication...

so... eventhou this was kinda a rant...
i was wondering...
does any one know....
how long it takes for symptoms to go away after medication was taken? like if you've had one... how long it took for you?
and...
does anyone know... if they see a little yeast in a microscope test... does that mean you DO have a yeast infection? or is there ANY yeast naturally in there? cuz when the doctor was talking to me... it didn't sound like i had a lot of yeast... but she did decide to give me medication for it...

blah i dunno what to do...

hahaha oh yea... and also... does masturbation and having an orgasm effect the improvement of yeast infections when being cured... or effect yeast infections in general?

I was at a friend's university and saw a girl with a shirt that read:
I LOVE MY VAGINA.
I had the biggest smile on my face.
I hope you have one on yours too.

Hi everyone. I haven't posted in a while, but I just wanted to celebrate my first pap ever! It wasn't nearly as bad as people want you to think. It took all of 5 minutes.

I also got the patch instead of a refill of ortho tri-cyclen lo. It's just a pain to take the pill every day. I haven't had anything bad happen so far. No burning at the patch site or anything. It's sticking very well. My breasts hurt a bit, but they did on the pill anyway.

My friends told me they have heard some bad things about Orth Evra, that it isn't very effective. Has anyone else heard this?

It's a beautiful day here, hope it is in your corners of the world, too. :)

i'm 16 and right now, i'm on microgynon 30, i have been on it for the past two months.

it has helped with making my periods lighter and helping with the symtoms of PMT.

however recently, i have become hysterical, crying, feeling like i want to commit suicide, and this is over the little things in life. i'd dread to think how something major in my life could affect me.

i am willing to give these pills a few more months to "settle" down, but my father suggested i took a break from them. i'm not quite sure if that would work, and may just complicate things futher, with concern to my body, i.e irregular periods.

1. what would you do in my situation?

2. if i went on the patch would it make any difference?

3. is microgynon 30 a medium dose or what?

4. is this the standard pill (with exception to family history) given to every woman by the NHS? it seems to be the first pill given out to all my friends.

5. how do you calm down, when you feel you have no control over your hormones? my boyfriend, among others, have referred to me as "mental" which hurts when i know it's not the real "me". unless you're on BC, people seem to be very wary that i'm using it as an excuse. but i do think it has played a part in my mood swings.

thank you very much.

I was just wondering if anyone knew if it is possible to have more than one cyst at a time? And if so, what is the maxiumin amount of cysts a girl can have?

I have like 2 or 3 little red bumps. I can't quite tell for sure. Its weird. I would have never noticed it if i never checked myself out. Any ideas? I think i have asked this before, and if i have, I'm sorry!

I'm going to a gyno soon so yeah.

Did anyone besides me hate Cunt?  You know, the misinformation, the sexism, and what's more, the dangerous aspects of it?  :-/  It made me pretty angry, but not in the way the author was hoping for.

i think the answer to my question has already been posted - but i can't seem to find it - so:

does anyone know where i can purchase an 'i <3 my vagina' tee-shirt? i really want to own one and wear it in public!

thanks!

I have a birth control question...

Okay, I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for about four months. I'm tired of the weight gain and mood swings, so I'm switching to Ortho Novum 7/7/7. Now, if I would have stayed on Ortho Tri-Cyclen, my new pack would have started the Wednesday that just passed (2 days ago; May 4th.) However, my doctor called the prescription into the wrong pharmacy, so I haven't started my new pack of Ortho Novum yet (I will tonight). For the month of May, is my birth control going to be effective? In order words, am I protected against baby making even though I will be starting this pack late? (I will not be having sex until May 26th...damn long distance relationships!)

Also, if anyone has any stories about Ortho Novum 7/7/7, I'm all ears. Thanks.
[identity profile] crayztrayz.livejournal.com
yeah, it's me again.
i just am wondering about something.
my doctor told me that it would take three to four cycles for my birth control (the minipill) to be effective to prevent babies. heh.

is that true?

The petition was submitted over a week ago and I have not gotten any sort of response from Principal Wondrasch.

In other news, I have received two emails from people in London who want to interview me for radio and TV on this issue. I'm not certain if they are legit, but I still find it fascinating that I've somehow been contacted.

Lastly, I just called my favorite local radio station (96.5 The Buzz for you in the Kansas City area) and told the dj about the situation for his "current event Friday" segment. It was aired, with me proudly stating "I have a vagina and I'm proud!" There has already been another caller commenting on the topic since I was on. So more publicity!

It looks like being involved with an online petition CAN make a difference by raising awareness and spreading the word.

I have two problems. One is not really vagina related, but I wanted to ask anyway, since you guys are awesome at advice.

Here's the v-related one!

I am currently 3 hours away from my boyfriend. We see each other on average one weekend a month. (Thankfully, the semester is nearly out and I move back from on the 20th!). Now, he is a sex fiend. 3-4 times daily would be perfect for him. Now, I wouldn't mind that, just to make happy, but it seems like the past couple of times we've been able to spend time together, I just get in a lot of pain. As the days go on, it does start to lessen, but by then, we have to be apart again. It's VERY frustrating. The first time we see each other and have sex, it's fine, no pain! But after that, I'm in pain throughout the whole thing. Then it shortens to it hurts for the first few mins, goes away for awhile, then comes back and we have to stop. Then eventually, it gets to be that its just the normal little pain when he first inserts and I'm fine for awhile, and then it just starts to hurt. Could this just be because we don't have sex normally? And everytime I see him again, I have to get used to it all over again?

And my other problem, is behind this cut... )

I've noticed when I get nervous, I get the sudden urge to have to poop. Well, one of the nurses where I volunteer at was saying that she has irritible bowel syndrome (IBS) and that when we gets nervous she feels like she has to poop.
Is there a way to cure this? Or, do I just have to deal?
Also, what do you recommend for gas? I'm always gassy and end up having to release it. I know everyone farts, but I am not convinced people get as gassy as me.

Hello ladies- I just had a question about birth control pills.

I've been on Levora since September of 2003. This past month, I went to get my script refilled, and the pharmacy said that they were out of Levora, and wouldn't have any in for three or four days. So the pharmacist gave me Portia instead, he told me that it was a generic of Levora.

Well, it put my hormones all out of whack...I've been moody and bitchy and crying the whole month, my sex drive was almost nonexistant (I usually want to go at it three or four times a day). My poor fiance was at his wit's end with me, because I'm normally a very happy, bubbly person. I finally realized that it may have been the birth control, and checked it out online. The resources I could find said that there was something (I don't remember what) different between Levora and Portia.

My period usually comes Friday morning (today) or, rarely, on Saturday. I've been under a lot of stress this month with school and money problems, plus the different BC. My period hasn't come yet...should I be worried? I've had some cramping, and been irritable, which are normal PMS-y signs for me.

I'm just a bit worried.

I am again at the point where I am on my period and I really just want a tubal ligation and I am ready to fight for it now - the new pills I have been on for some over a year have made my skin oh so good but I also wonder if I just should quit my pills (there is no real need for them at the moment but I have eaten pills for 10 years now). I am just wondering how much bad things could get if I just stop my pills right now. Please, experiences?

Hi, quick question - do any of you put on weight before getting your period? If so, how much? I've just gone from 100 pounds, my regular weight, to 104.5, the heaviest I've been in a while. That distresses me quite a bit. Due to school I have been eating more than usual, so I'm not sure how much to blame on my period. Thanks, girls.

Hello my fellow vulva lovin' superstars!

We take the information that gets passed on here very seriously and make an effort to ensure that it is as factual and accurate as possible (see FAQ item on "Misinformation"). We also feel strongly that it's vital for people to have the tools they need to make educated decisions; so they can weed out misinformation on their own. With that, we'd like to offer a little guide on determining the reliability of information. It may seem like pretty basic stuff to some, but to others it may be new.

30 second tutorial on how to know if you can believe what a website tells you? )

And lastly, a great cartoon that sums why this post is even necessary up nicely.

Hi all. I'm looking for some communities to join that meet the following guidelines -

1. Gender/sexuality focused. Related to issues of gender in at least some vague way, though the primary focus of the community need not be a specific "gendered" issue. Political orientation of the majority is not an issue, as long as a variety of viewpoints are at least officially welcome. (In other words, if it's a majority conservative/traditionalist community, that's cool.)

2. Low to non-existant moderation. No-holds barred conversation/argumentation/debate. Specifically, no "safe space" rules.

Note: This question is not posed as a criticism to [livejournal.com profile] vaginapagina or the way this community is maintained, but for reasons of personal curiousity. Thanks for any suggestions.

breast pain

For the past two days I have been having pain in my left breast. It's like sharp shooting pains through my nipple to the middle of my breast. It's not pms because it's not the right time. Also, I am almost 30 so I don't think it's a growing pain type of thing. I looked in the archive and those were the only two ideas I saw. I checked today and don't really feel any lumps. I am going to try to call my doctor on Monday but I was wondering if anyone has ever had anything similar or any ideas.

Also, I am not pregnant so that can't be it.
