Hey there everyone :)
Ok well here's the story.
I have a yeast infection (or so I'm guessing).
I'm making alot of discharge and its.. lumpy and gross and very not like the normal stuff..
And it's really red and itchy as well.

How long will it take to just... go away?
I'm too embarrassed to go to the chemist and get something for it.
I've never had one before and it really sucks.

Any help on things I could use to make it go away... eg. I've heard something about yoghurt?
Or some form of vitamin.

I'm desperate :(
Thanks all in advance..

Can you skip periods on the patch or the ring?

Woke up this morning with the definite beginnings of a UTI. I read in the memories that drinking large amounts of cranberry juice and water can sometimes stop a budding UTI. However, none of the entries gave an estimate of how long this process would take. Here's my dilemma: I'm at college and my only access to health care is Student Health Services, which can't accommodate me until (at least) Friday. Also, I'm on BC so I'd prefer to avoid antibiotics and the accompanying trek all the way over to the nearest pharmacy in the single-digit windchill to buy condoms. So, I pose my question to those of you who have tried this method. Does cranberry juice and water clear up a UTI in any kind of reasonable time frame, or if I should just suffer until Friday afternoon ?

I discovered yesterday that there are shops in Australia that sell Summer's Eve stuff.

I've been on OTC-Lo for almost half a year, and started on BC pills with Alesse about 3 months before that. It's a week before my actual period is supposed to start and I've just had my first case of breakthrough bleeding ever. Feels like I'm on my period, but it's very light. Confused, I read through the archives, and I got the impression that this usually happens to people starting new BC... but I've been on mine for a very long time. Is this unusual? Also, I'm probably going to have my actual period next week then, right? Yuck. Thanks in advance for any input.

Edit: Just wanted to add that I've been taking my pills at roughly the same time every day for many months.

Lately I've been having a problem with becoming dry during sex after a short period of time. It's never really been an issue before, so I don't know why it's started now. I've been told BC (which I am on) can often cause this problem. I was just wondering if there were any ways to help this? I think I remember reading somewhere that drinking more water could help. Not sure if this is true or not.

Thanks!

At what point do you as individual menstruators get concerned about heavy (or clumpy) bleeding?

Thanks, all. This is really strange for me.

I kn ow this is political and divisive, but so far CNN etc aren't touching it. So, those who wish to keep an eye on it:

What kind of vision problems are contact wearers supposed to watch out for when on birth control pills?

Today I've noticed that I can't focus very well, it's too blurry to read or watch tv, and when I do try and focus in on something, I get a mild headache/dizzy. I just started my new pack of pills on Sunday (I'm on Alesse), do you think that that could have had an effect on my vision? I've been on these pills for about 5months, and I've never experienced trouble before.

i've done the research (including the VP archives) and looked at the various options for treating yeast. garlic and yogurt seem to be the simpler and safer way to treat.

i've heard a lot about using plain, organic yogurt (with active bacteria cultures) to treat a yeast infection. i've wanted to try this method and here's my chance: i have a budding yeast infection (well, i think i do, the itchiness and everything and yes, i've had them before).

i have two questions for anyone who has maybe used this method or knows anything about it.

1. can i dip a tampon in yogurt and apply it that way (as opposed to the messy alternative)?

2. will yogurt harm me if it is not a yeast infection?

oh, and 3. does garlic or yogurt tend to work better?

i have a bad reaction to monistat so am looking for an alternative to getting a prescription.

Have any of you lovely ladies tried Depo-Provera? Should I go on it? If you're on it now, or have been on it in the past, how did it effect you?

so i found out that the "irritation" around the opening of my vagina (it was really just an annoying kind of burning feeling that wasn't too terrible, just, well annoying) is probably caused by low estrogen. has anyone else had problems like this? my gyn said that it's common with birth control users.... i thought birth control added estrogen to your body?

I didn't think anyone on my friend's list would want to here about my troubles so here goes...I've been bleeding on and off for 2-3 weeks now with no stop in site. I'm on birth control and I've been pretty good about taking it (miss a day or two here or there but I always catch up). What could it be causing this?

Okay, I've read on here various times that 90% of the sexually active population has HPV - does anyone have a reliable source that states that? I've been looking, but can't find it.

♥ 1. Last night I inserted 2 acidophilus (powder tablets) into my vagina. I know capsules would be better but I'm just finishing off this bottle first. Anyhow I woke up twice through-out the night extremely... well-lubricated you could say. This morning when I woke up there was a LOT of discharge on my sheets, and a fresh spot as well. It was really white-ish and smelled like nothing, so I know it was just acidophilus + girl juices, but I've never had that much discharge because of acidophilus. Next time I'll wear undies and pants to bed. Has this happened to anyone else?

♥ 2. What is everyone's opinion of Cystex? I take it once in a while, including before sex so when I pee afterwards it kills the bacteria. Also has anyone used a home UTI test? How did that work for you?

♥ 3. The first pee I take in the morning hurts. Like after I wipe it feels really raw and yucky. But this goes away after a while. Anyone else like this?

♥ 4. What's the deal with semen? It is basic or acidic? Will it kill bacteria up there, help an infection, or make it worse?

♥ 5. I take TruNature cranberry tablets, three in the morning and three in the afternoon. Does anyone else take these and how many do you take? Each contains 25 mg of cranberry extract or whatever. You're supposed to take three a day.

I'll just relate the story, not starting where I might have gotten a yeast infection, because that's just too much information.

So last week I was having a bit of itchiness and went into the Women's Clinic here at my university to test for a yeast infection. The Dr. saw no yeast under the microscope from a simple swab, but offered to do a culture and go ahead and write me up the prescription for the medicine treating a yeast infection in case the itching got worse over the three day weekend (before I would be able to have the results). I figured my chances were slim, so I didn't fill the prescription and decided to wait and see. Well, the itching has gone away, but I have a good deal of discharge (though I also just switched birth control types, so I thought it could be from that). I get home today and found a message from the Dr. saying that the culture came up positive (I do/did have a yeast infection). Now... I'm not itching or burning, but do have discharge possibly caused by switching BC. Will it hurt me to go ahead and take the medicine for a yeast infection, just in case? Has anyone ever had a yeast infection that cleared up on its own? Could this be the case with me?

odd?

i looked through the archives but didnt see what i was looking for. i know a doctor should be asked. it will probably sound repetitive. i apologize.

my boyfriend has what looks like an acne breakout on his abdomen. its just around where the wait of his pants meets the skin, a little below the bellybutton, and not more than mayhbe an inch into the top of his pubic hair..

i dont have anything like this, except the occasional zit on the back of my legs, which ive had since before i was sexually active and i always figured was irritation from shaving.

its lasted a few weeks, and . i dont know... its kinda freaking me out. we were both tested in the last year, and everything was cool. ive looked at sites about HPV and herpes, and it doesnt look like any of the pictures on those, which is what is baffling to me. it looks like zits, but has lasted longer than i know zits to last.

my guesses are this: he doesnt really do more than a quick dry-off after sex, which can get pretty juicy.. and then goes to bed and often goes to an 8 hour day of work before his next shower. i'd imagine that leaving gunk of any variety on my skin for that long might cause irritation.
any ideas? i know i should send him to see a doctor, im kinda waiting to see what it does, if it clear up... which it seems to be doing.

I ordered a free OB tampon sample, and Im excited to try them out, because my pad is bugging me! But I was wondering, do they only give you one tampon? Dont they realize it takes many tries to work the first time through?

protection

I am a virgin but have spoken with some of my friends who are sexually active in their own ways and the questiosn of protection came up with them.

One friend told me he uses a condom for intercourse with his girlfriend, but that they do not use condoms or dental dams for oral sex. I argued against this, saying cold sores (even when not present-- the virus) can give her/him things. He said since he is not active with anyone else and neither is she that there's no reason. But isn't it a good habit to get into-- safer sex and protection, regardless? (Especially at our age-- which is 18/19/20 w these friends)

My other friend told me she has had oral sex with her boyfriend but didn't use a condom and when he went down on her didn't use a dental dam though she told she knows she "should."

Just curious-- and I'm not really looking for *debate* as much as *facts*-- what are the reasons to use protection/barriers during oral sex if both parties involved are only involved with each other and have never been with anyone else?

Furthermore, is it normal to get tested for STDs and things before having intercourse for the first time? My friend (the female one) jokingly said I was being "paranoid"-- but isn't it a good thing to do?

(I mean, if yer gonna have a penis in there, one should be able to handle a speculum, no?)

Some background info: My BF and I have been sexually active for a couple of months now, we're both sti/std free and don't use a condom. I have been with several partners before, he has not.

The Problem? Recently, my vagina has become extremely tight. So tight, he has a hard time getting in and has compared it to a chinese finger trap (he's wierd with analogies). Moving in and out is extremely difficult, and the friction caused by the closeness really rubs me raw, not to mention he's been on the verge of pain a few times. Lubrication is not an issue, and I lack the attention span for Kegels; so I don't have much of an idea what could be causing this. Now, one thing that has been different with him is that my average number of orgasms per session has increased dramatically (yay attentive lovers!). Could this be causing the problem? More importantly, how do I fix said problem? I'd really appreciate some advice since it seems to be getting tighter every time we have sex.
