I learned about it in this forum, and I looked up information about it on the internet.

It sounds.. weird..

I understand the theory, but just gotta do the practical (as my hubby said about sex when we first met ;P ) but there wasn't really a lot of anecdotal evidence about it.

I've got two main concerns.

I kinda sorta have body fluid issues. Like when I give my husband a handjob, the sticky cum kinda gives me the willies. (I was fine when we first met, but we were separated for 18 months- he lived in Birtain, me in the US, so I had to wait to immigrate- and during that time my body fluid ick factor kind of went up for some bizarre reason.) So I have a bit of an issue of putting my fingers around/inside my vagina when I bleed. Granted, I'm not bleeding now, as I have to wait for the Depo hormones to leave my poor hormonally abused body, but I'm looking into my options.

How do you get over having to mess around with blood/fluids to insert or remove the Keeper?

Also, I am terrified of it popping out while I'm sitting on the toilet, then having to reach into a feces/urine infected bowl to retrieve it. I read that it shouldn't. But still that would be dancing around in the back of my mind.

It looks soooo convenient. I always had really leaky periods. I'd always, always overflow my pads. I refused to use anything other than pads with wide wings because of that, but even heavy flow ones would be soaked within hours and weigh a frigging ton. At night, I would always drain down my rear and end up with blood stains on my underwear and sometimes my bedsheets, no matter what pad I was using. Sometimes even lying on my side I would get leakage. It's really annoying to wake up in the morning covered in blood, but I had no idea there were other options.

So I'm really considering this Keeper thing. Plus, I hated wearing underwear and a pad to bed. I've been sleeping nude since I was 19, so even underwear is extremely uncomfortable while trying to sleep, let alone a big bulky damned diaper!

So, what are your experiences with it? Can it just pop/fall out? Should I get one and practice with it at home for a while before wearing it to work or something? And what about getting over having to get a little messy? Help!

edit: For other women who want information, this website seems really informative about the Keeper

okay. first of all, PLEASE please no eye rolling or "come on" or anything. this is an honest question, and i could really use some suggestions.

my ex-s.o. and i had completely unprotected sex for the first month we were together. stupid, yes - but it was because we literally couldn't find a condom that fit him. he was a virgin when i met him and didn't have a clue about being "larger than average", and it certainly had its perks, but this was a huge downside.

the big problem was the girth. when i measured an average trojan to him, i knew there was no freakin' way that was going to work. then i bought a box of magnums and we tried putting them on - it wouldn't even fit on the tip. so, i found trojan "large" and tried that. it was a little better, but it was literally like trying to squeeze a foot into a shoe five sizes too small. when we rolled it out, the condom just rolled right back up. the second time we tried it, it actually gave him this really awful (and really painful) penis bruise. (ouch!)

around that point i got myself on birth control and we didn't have to worry about it any more. but, now we've broken up and he's starting to get back into the dating game. (we're still friends, of course.) he's expressed to me a great deal of concern about what the hell he's going to do when things start getting intimate with someone else.

so. is there such a thing as a condom larger than trojan "large" and "magnum" (which was a joke)? if so, where could he find it? as far as we know he's not allergic to latex.

thank you very much for reading. =)

I bet you're worried. I was worried. That’s why I began this piece. I was worried about vaginas. I was worried about what we think about vaginas, and even more worried about what we don't think about vaginas. I was worried about my own vagina. I needed context of other vaginas-a community of vaginas. there's so much darkness and secrecy surrounding them-like the Bermuda triangle. nobody ever reports back from there. --- the vagina monologues by Eve Ensler

thank god for the vagina monologues, and this community rocks my socks

the vagina monologues are a must read. or see, the performance is delicious, and the book is wonderful as well. I read the book in one night. and I’m sure many of you know about Eve Ensler and her work. I adore it ^_^

I think we need to talk a bit more about our vaginas and how wondrous they are in this community rather then mainly talking about birthcontrol. though it is very vagina related, id just be happy to see a variety of posts

sometimes things get me thinking and i was wondering, since motrin is a blood thinner, if you take motrin for menstrual cramps, it will make you bleed more, correct?

a couple nights ago i was with my boyfriend and i'm a virgin but anyway, we tried to have sex and he said i was too tight. so he worked on me for a while with his fingers but there was no penis on vagina action and i was just wondering, because i know many of you are sexually active, if this happened to any of you your first time because i feel pretty alone/slightly embarrased. thanks in advance for any comments/support.

hey vagina friends,

i'm posting this info that i read in the latest JANE magazine (the neatest magazine in the entire universe). it's relevant considering all of the "there's something that looks like a pimple on my vulva!!!" that are posted here.

JANE says:

linda bryant, an easygoing nurse practitioner at planned parenthood, knows sores. she says that "a pimply, rised red bump" is probably an ingrown hair (kinkily get close and look for the hair follicle to be sure), but anything that looks like a mouth ulcer ("irregularly shaped but circular, like someone took a piece of the skin off," she adds grossly) should be avoided. ulcer-y bumps can mean syphilis or herpes, while any cauliflower-looking thing is usually an HPV wart. Anytime you see a genital wart, "it means something," linda warns. So don't believe any what? it's not contagious BS.

what's the practical purpose of a hymen? i heard it said it was intact to protect the vagina, but to protect it from what??

A random question with a bit of backstory behind it:
I have excessively painful periods. On several occasions the cramps have been so severe that I've either vomited or passed out. I currently "manage" my symptoms with 1000 mg doses of ibeuprophin at three-hour intervals, but even with that, I can pretty much expect to be bedridden for the first two days of bleeding every month.
After figuring out that this was not neccesarilly a "normal" thing, I consulted a gynecologist who prescribed estrogen therapy. Thus began a two-year period of trying about five different kinds of birth-control, none of which made any appreciable difference in my symptoms. A combination of negative psychological side effects and the mounting tide of opinion against HRT in general were enough to convince me to quit taking them.
I also tried a six-month stint of progesterone therapy, and found that it did not affect me for better or for worse.
From this evidence, I draw the conclusion that my dysmenorrhea is not the result of a hormonal imbalance.
My mom has surmised, based on this evidence, that I might have a tipped uterus. Does this typically cause the symptoms I experience? And if so, how might I go about being diagnosed and/or treated?

So I know that I'm out of it when I completely forget that tomorrow is the day I get a piece of plastic forged into my vagina for a couple of minutes. I'm just curious, I'm still considering the route of the copper IUD, but can anyone suggest a pill that is low in progestin. Also, I'm starting my relactation process, and what pills are safe during breastfeeding? I might still go with an IUD, but I'd like a general idea of what else I might be able to go for. x-posted to [livejournal.com profile] birthcontrol.
