So I know that I'm out of it when I completely forget that tomorrow is the day I get a piece of plastic forged into my vagina for a couple of minutes. I'm just curious, I'm still considering the route of the copper IUD, but can anyone suggest a pill that is low in progestin. Also, I'm starting my relactation process, and what pills are safe during breastfeeding? I might still go with an IUD, but I'd like a general idea of what else I might be able to go for. x-posted to [livejournal.com profile] birthcontrol.

The mini-pill (or progestin-only pill) is safe to use during breast feeding, and while you're breast feeding, it is nearly 100% effective. You might check that out if you want to give yourself more time to think about the IUD. :)

I'm pretty sure you can't take combined pills while breastfeeding. But actually, the progestin-only pill contains less progestin than any combonation pill, if I remember correctly, so it would be your best bet anyway short of the IUD. Also, it may be that a certain type of progestin gives you problems, but that the type in the mini-pill won't. It might be worth a try, or at least a chat with your doctor. :)
