Date: 2004-01-08 04:18 pm (UTC)My experience was great. I had underprotected sex (we primarily used Fertility Awareness) during a time of the month that I shouldn't have - I was almost certainly ovulating. I went to Planned Parenthood the next day, told them that I needed Emergency Contraceptive. I was a walk-in, so I waited for a bit, went in with the nurse, explained the need and told her my last period dates (etc, etc). She gave me a packet of the EC pills (I paid $12, because my PP is sliding-scale) and some condoms. I left, paid, and went and took both pills at the same time.
I had some mild cramping and a little bit of nausea, but I get those before my period, anyway. The miscarriage I had at 19 was much, MUCH worse. All and all, it was certainly a painless experience.

Date: 2004-01-08 04:43 pm (UTC)i have taken it a couple times
Date: 2004-01-08 04:44 pm (UTC)the next times i took it i was smarter about timing. it helps a lot not having to set an alarm for the middle of the night, and also to make sure your stomach has something in it. apart from the first time, i had no problems except a little nausea.

Date: 2004-01-08 04:46 pm (UTC)My next period, however, was late and *really* heavy. Super heavy for two days, and pretty damn heavy for 4 more. No cramping, no pain, just heavy.
All in all not so bad and I have no regrets in taking it. I would recommend it as well. Just know that everyone will have different experiences, your period may be heavy, light, early, late, or missed. :)
Good luck.

Date: 2004-01-09 07:42 am (UTC)The worst part was some of the awful experiences with doctors I've had. One told me I couldn't have it because I was on my period at the time and thus was very unlikely to be pregnant, and another that the pill isn't 100% effective, and if I was still pregnant afterwards my baby would have a high chance of birth defects. It's also the law in the UK that young people have to be asked some rather patronising questions about their sexual behaviour before they can be given the pill. So grit your teeth for that kind of judgemental behaviour from health professionals. Well worth the £20 to buy it over the counter!
It's worth pointing out a few stats for the treatment, tho this is all just stuff I've picked up and remember from school, so may bot be entirely right. The more time that passes after the unprotected sex the less effective the pill is (my recent experience of buying the pill in a pharmacist I was encouraged to go to my doctor and get it for free - which would have meant waiting hours - without the danger of letting time pass being pointed out), and the first pill needs to be taken within 72 hours. If you throw up one of the parts, the whole treatment may not be effective, I've seen kind doctors pop an extra pill into the box just in case.
