vaginapagina | Accuracy of vaginal swabs

I recently got results back from my gyn regarding a recurrent yeast infection I'm trying to tackle. Everytime I go to a doc to attempt a culture to find out the strain it always seems to be negative!

At the assessment last week he saw and acknowledged the same white discharge that I'd been experiencing and took a decent swab. The tests came back yesterday as negative. I've still been having some white discharge since the test and in fact used a boric acid capsule last night to try and knock it on the head.

Granted I had by that point taken about 3 doses of fluconazole before the examination but I am starting to really doubt how trustworthy vaginal swab results are. I'm never really sure now when I'm clear or not.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? Discharge and maybe other symptoms that you know to be thrush (or BV) but tests continuously coming back negative? Am I just being paranoid?
