Gyno while on period?

Going for your annual gyno appt while on your period - yes or no? My appt happens to be scheduled for tomorrow and of course my period arrived over the weekend. Is it acceptable both from a medical perspective (ie, it won't hinder the exam) and I guess from a...being polite perspective? Seems gross and awkward. Thoughts?
