Sorry to only post when asking odd questions..but...

I'm on my period, on the second day. I was changing my pad earlier, and when I went to go wipe myself, I was horrified to see stringy mucus and blood clots kind of..hanging from me. I know blood clots are normal, but mucus? Maybe this is because I just started?
It kind of freaked me out..

This happens to me all the time. It's not abnormal...and if it is, we're both in trouble! But seriously, when you're menstruating, all kinds of weird stuff comes out...clots, discharge, mucus...I wouldn't worry.

that's not gross, that's natural!

same thing happens to most girls.

if it carries a foul odor, or continues into a pattern you are not used, I def. recommend a trip to the doctor, but from what you've said, sounds normal to me.

when i emptied my keeper the other night, i poured it in my hand over the sink for the hell of it. it felt like one mucusy blob. it wasn't liquidy like water like i expected. sometimes before my period starts i'll have a total blob of mucus, as if it were pure snot. it's normal. maybe if it were a really weird color it wouldn't be normal.

you know what? In my experience, pretty much *everyone* thinks that their periods and their bodies are somehow weird or abnormal until they start talking to other women about their periods in excruciating detail.

vaginas are mucus membranes, much like, um, our noses and eyes. normal discharge during the month is basically thin mucus. in natural family planning methods, one is taught to read the thickness of cervical or vaginal mucus to determine fertility. so, this mucus doesn't go away when you bleed. it just comes out with the blood.
