I had a yeast infection set in a couple of weeks ago. Like a lot of my yeast infections, I didn't catch it immediately because mine apparently like to be unhelpfully subtle: just enough to be annoying but not enough for me to be sure and start treating. Ugh. Anyway, I wanted to try garlic rather than the OTC guck or calling the doctor again.
Last night and the night before, I took a clove of garlic, peeled it, trimmed the stem end to get rid of the rough bit, and made a couple more slits to access the juice before inserting it. The problem is that I don't necessarily feel any better after two nights. The discharge may be a little better (this morning it was just thick rather than thick and chunky. Yay?), but it's hard to tell especially since I tend to get "drier" during a yeast infection and the discharge was just what was clinging to the clove when I removed it. The irritation/itchiness is the same, if not worse. Sitting at work today was AWFUL.
So. Exactly how much longer should I try garlic before throwing in the towel and heading to the drugstore or calling the doctor? Is it normal for it to get a little worse before it gets better? Can I try using the remainder of the vulva cream from the last time I tried the OTC pack to help it along and relieve the itch in the meantime?
I'd appreciate a bit of help here, since most of the online resources are fuzzy on some details. Thank you!
