My flatmate asked me to post here on her behalf - she stopped taking Cerazette last week and had unprotected sex in the early hours of Sunday morning and doesn't want to get pregnant. We are in the UK and she didn't make it to get the morning after pill yesterday or today, and tomorrow she is busy so will struggle to find the time. If she takes a load of cerazette or microgynon 30 will it do as a replacement? Or is that just the stupidest idea ever? Any alternatives for the silly lady? She's majorly panicking. Thanks a bunch!!

I would say that if she's seriously panicking she should see if she can cancel some of her stuff for tomorrow to get Plan B. Nothing throws a wrench in your schedule like unplanned pregnancy! I don't know that taking a bunch of BC will have the same effect, but perhaps some other people here can speak to that.

Can you go (or another female friend) and get it for her? (just say it's for you, condom broke or something) most chemists sell it and Boots have a open till midnight pharmacy thing in most of their stores.

If it's been a week of no pills then she's definitely not protected and 7 days is enough for your body to release an egg. Emergency contraception and regular contraception work by preventing the ovaries from releasing an egg, so if she's already ovulated then it won't necessarily prevent a pregnancy. Sperm can also live for 7 days (linked to why you need 7 days with condoms/no sex if you miss a pill or to have full protection when starting a pack in the beginnning)

here is a link to how many pills you can take as a morning after pill substitute according to the brand, I'm not sure if those are listed though. http://ec.princeton.edu/questions/dose.html

Most brands don't require you to use back up if you miss one pill - you just double up later on. It gives you a lower level of protection, but using back up isn't a must. :)

Yes, Microgynon can be used as an emergency contraception. It's four pills now, four pills 12 hours later.

Here's where I found the info:
