Right so the day my period starts I notice that i loose a lot of hair and it seems I also am able to remove more than normal amount of dead skin with a exfoliating glove.

This month in particular I was staying at a friends and showered (i only have a bath at home) a ball of hair roughly the size of a marble formed in the drain. i found this a bit shocking.

I guess the question is is this normal? Does anyone else notice this?

I'm kinda worried about my hormones anyway because for the first time in my life (i'm 34) my cycle varies only 1-4 days either way but never been an issue before. It recently shortened also and I seem to be noticing other weirdnesses like a lump in my groin while on my period, and bad water retention esp in the arch of my foot. So i guess if anyone can tell me any of my symptoms are normal that would be nice.

water retention while on the menses is a fairly common symptom, honestly. i had to have "period bras" because my breasts went up nearly a whole cup size during that week, not to mention the fluid retention in my feet and hands, sometimes to the point that i had to take off my wedding rings!

having a bit more hair loss during your menses isnt really *that* unusual, either. and depending on how long your hair is, it may look like a lot more hair lost than it really is. remember, losing 100 hairs a day is about NORMAL hair loss. it may have looked like a lot more since it gathered in the shower drain rather than going down the tub drain. i know when i had a shower in the bathtub rather than a separate shower stall, i had to go into the drain with tweezers once a month or so to clear out the hairs that got caught...and remove a HUGE hairball. (of course the fact that TheEngineer has more hair than a yeti contributed to that, too.)

the lump in your groin, i'd ask your doctor about. that doesnt seem normal. make an appointment, and have your hormone levels tested, too.

and as archangelbeth would recommend, your thyroid levels. that can cause body weirdness, too. :)
