[identity profile] melisshki.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] vaginapagina
I am writing a paper for my sociology class about how, in my opinion (and in many other people's opinions) abstinence-only education is flawed and how there should be more of a need for 'safer sex education' in the classrooms. As we all know, President Bush has implemented many abstinence-only sex education programs throughout the country (and, really, the world), and I'm trying to say that these initiatives just aren't as effective as teaching high school teenagers safer sex education. Whether or not statistics prove otherwise, that's what the paper is going to be about, since it's more of a hypothesis than a stone-cold, factual report. :P

While I do have some pretty solid information to go on right now, do any of you know of any links (or books, even?) that could help me out with this paper? I'm looking for statistics, facts, opinions-- you name it.
In other words, anything pertaining to the issue would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry if this wasn't the right place to post this.
I'll have a vagina-related question to ask sooner or later. :)

Thanks so much in advance!

Funny you should ask...

I just wrote about the problems with abstinence-only education not very long ago. I know my teacher reqested that i not use ONLY websites or liberal sources, so i'd suggest try and avoid all the planned parenthood sources for all your work. I found a lot of info off a magazine/newspaper database my college offers, which was SO helpful. Sadly it's limited to only students so i can't give you any links but if you have one in your college/school try and use those. There's TONS of info on the flaws of JUST teaching abstinence-only education, however most studies claim that teaching it along with sex education is the most effective.

Just curious, where else other than the United States has he been implementing abstinence programs, then?
