i took the plan b pill on jan 31st, last tuesday, because of a broken condom. for one week i experienced no side effects. on sunday, feb 5th i started a period. this morning, feb 8th, i feel extremely nauseous and dizzy to the point where i'm sweating and shivering and can't eat. my last normal period was on jan 15th. i had sex again saturday night the 5th right and we used a condom but he accidentally swiped his penis across my vagina briefly.

is the nausea a side effect of the pill or could i be pregnant?

Though the Plan B should not be affecting you after about a week, it would be extremely early for you to be having pregnancy symptoms. It's not impossible, but if you're in the US (and especially New England area), I'd be more inclined to suspect the norovirus that's been going around here and there, or food poisoning.

The "period" you've got may actually be a withdrawal bleed from the hormones -- which may or may not overlap with your real period, depending on how your uterus and ovaries feel about all this, and what your usual cycles are.

I'd say, take a pregnancy test 19 days after the sex in question (peeonastick.com likes the US's Dollar Tree Store tests), and for the moment, just treat yourself as being sick from a stomach bug or food poisoning or the like.

I hope you feel better soon!!

Whee, the joys of stomach flu... I hope your roomie is better, soon, too!

OT, but make sure you stay hydrated. My mother-in-law ended up in the emergency room from the norovirus, but my dad escaped by getting my mom to give him ice chips when he couldn't keep down water.

That's awesome! Thank you so much :D

And - weird as it is to say - hurrah that you have stomach flu! :-) Though if your period doesn't show up as expected in a week's time, that could well be because of the plan B - it can mess up your cycle for a month or two after taking it, so that's not cause for concern if it happens.

Well, in that case I totally second Beth's advice above about taking a test 19 days after the sex in question (and I also totally second the statement below that having a penis briefly come in contact with your vulva is highly unlikely to result in pregnancy unless your partner has ninja sperm of solid steel).

Much much sympathy, though - I have totally been there. Perhaps my best story is from about a year and a bit ago (so when I was 19-20ish!) and ended up taking a pregnancy test in the loos at Fornum & Mason (http://www.fortnumandmason.com/) (an extremely posh London department store which I was only really at for tourism purposes). Condom had slipped off during sex. I was actually in medically-induced temporary menopause at the time so there was no WAY I was pregnant, but that didn't stop me worrying!

Maybe TMI, but my fiance and I will regularly have unprotected sex before he puts on a condom, and I have not been pregnant from that. Some couples even use the withdrawal method with apparent success. I don't think swiping his penis across your vagina could POSSIBLY get you pregnant, seriously. It sounds like you probably have a little flu or cold, but if it will help you calm down, take a really cheap pregnancy test. Go to a store with self check-out if you're embarrassed about buying them. Good luck! I don't think you need to worry, but I hope you get some peace of mind.
