Basically, I've been on antibiotics off and on for a few weeks and I have a persistent yeast infection. My problem is that I have to take antibiotics for the next 2 1/2 weeks and I'd really like to get rid of this thing, if possible. I've read about treating YIs with boric acid on VP and other places and I wanted to try that. I special ordered boric acid from my Target pharmacy and they said it was safe to use, but I don't really trust the people that work there. It's a Humco product that's Granular NF and it has no information about its concentration. I've looked at similar products online that say their concentration is 100% so I'm worried about putting this in my body.  I know that the recommended concentration is 2% or less.

Does anyone else have experience with this product? Is it safe to use?
Should I look for gel caps to make a suppository? Or is it safer to dilute the granules with water and soak a tampon in the solution?

I've looked everywhere for an answer to this question and though most of the information I can find like the Humco Material Safety Data Sheet  makes me think it's safe, I'm just looking for a more conclusive answer.

I use it all the time, it's fine :) You can use it however you like, I make my own capsules but you can douche as well. If the MSDS says it's safe for humans, it's fine.

Go for it :)

I had a great experience using it! I spoke to one of the pharmacists at my local Bartells (I imagine whatever pharmacy you have near you would be fine too) and she was able to point me towards the right strength boric acid as well as the right size gel caps to make the suppositories. It was SUPER easy to just make the little pills and stick 'em up in there, I had no problems with that at all. My only word of advice: it can burn mildly (not as bad as the actual infection), so I think I used the suppositories for a couple days longer than I needed too thinking I still had BV! Also, only put the suppositories in at night right before bed, as gravity tends to pull them down if you're up walking around!

I've never heard that the concentration should be 2%, and never seen any diluted boric acid. The stuff I use is not diluted.

Where did you hear the 2%?

Hm. Feckalyn knows her stuff. But I've never seen a concentration on boric acid.
