Hey beautiful people!

So, my doctor doesn't open their offices until monday but I already have an appointment lined up... thing is I am in PAIN. I think I have some kind of infection and it's making me miserable =( I have sort of greenish but mostly yellow discharge, there is no cottage cheese like discharge so I am guessing it's not Yeast. I do itch and burn a LOT though like this morning I got up to pee (which is oddly NOT painful) and had a hard time getting back to sleep because of the itching and burning. My boyfriend also noticed a little bit of swelling but he said it was not something he'd notice right away. I am in an strictly monogamous relationship but I've been known to get infections even when NOT in a relationship or having sex. So... what does it sound like to you and what can I do to hang in there until my doc's appointment?

THANK YOUUU!

If you have this same infection even without a relationship, have you considered Bacterial Vaginosis? Does the discharge have a fishy or off smell at all?

It could also be Trichomoniasis but I'm betting it's the latter. I suffer from BV a lot and use boric acid capsules inserted vaginally to keep infections at bay. It's an imbalance between bad bacteria found naturally in our vaginas, and good. Once bad bacteria have the chance to flourish (whether from a change in your pH, or a drop in your good), that's when infection happens.

Until your doc appt, try a quick douche with vinegar/water, or hydrogen peroxide. That will at least make you feel better :)

Yes, you can. Commercial douches are white vinegar and water, with the "medicated" adding a bit of Betadine to the mixture to kill bacteria.

Actually, 21 yrs ago when I had my first ever BV after the birth of my first child, my midwife suggested douching with Betadine and water. There are a lot of remedies to cure the infection that are easily attainable.

Is it a commercial (already prepared) douche? There should be instructions in it..but basically, you add the little vial of Betadine to the large bottle, put on the nozzle and insert vaginally.

You'll want to do this in the tub or over the toilet as the liquid will come back out.

If you are mixing your own, half/half vinegar and water, maybe a couple tsp to a tablespoon of Betadine. Good luck!

I also think bacterial vaginosis could be the culprit, the greenish discharge is characteristic of that. I'm not familiar with home remedies, but my doc gave me medicine for it that did the trick right away.

I agree that it sounds like BV. The doc will either diagnose you upon looking inside, or they'll swab and do a quick test. Then you'll get antibiotics, most likely Flagyl, which can be a series of pills or a gel.

Also, as patchworkorange says, you can treat BV at home. YMMV, but the BV page on Vaginapagina.com (http://www.vaginapagina.com/index.php?title=Bacterial_vaginosis) is a great start. My personal favorite is the garlic treatment (probably outlined on the YI page instead). Garlic is a potent antibacterial (and antifungal), and it seems less messy to me than the other methods. I've also had success with the apple cider vinegar + water douche, though you do have to be careful to not create a seal between the douching thing and your vagina. Just stick your finger up alongside the douching thing, allowing the fluid to run out.

If you choose a home method (even if it's just until your appointment), be sure that you use it consistently for a few days. If you try it once, it may not be enough to really kick the infection, and it will just flare up again.

Also, it's in your vagina's best interest to not have any sort of vaginally penetrative sex until the infection is gone. Though, it sounds like you've already realized that! Ugh, feel better soon!
