Hi superstars!

It's been about 5 weeks since I had an abortion, and my period has yet to arrive. (I bled after I had a copper IUD inserted two weeks later, but I know that that wasn't a period.) I'm starting to get a little bit nervous.
I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance here. Can anyone else relate? If you've had an abortion, how long did it take for your period to come back?

Thanks in advance.

i bled on/off for 2-4 weeks afterwards. 2 weeks after i had it done, i started birth control(ortho evra patch) and it took a week or two for that to start regulating it. the bleeding i had wasn't heavy, it was like a light period.

not the same but hopefully helpful

I didn't have an abortion but I imagine a DNC is basically what abortion is. I miscarried when I was nineteen and afterwards bled on and off for a few weeks. I did miss two periods before I became regular again though. If you have any concerns I would check with a doctor.

As i understand it, this is fairly common. I miscarried at 19 and bled on and off for a month, and it took my period a few months to go back to normal. Then two years later, after a surgical abortion, it took roughly two to three months for my cycles to even out again.

You've just gone through a physical trauma and a huge hormonal shift, so some change in your cycle is probably to be expected. This site is pretty informative: http://www.afterabortion.com/physical.html

Scroll all the way to the bottom for info on your cycle.

i had mine years ago and didn't have a period for almost 12 weeks. docs said it was shock and healing factors, unless you are in pain don't worry about it too much

4-8 weeks is a normal timeframe for cycles to resume, unless one is taking hormones which interfere with that. you're still 3 weeks away from the high end of that, so i wouldn't worry yet; if you reach the 8w mark without menses, contact your medical provider for an evaluation.
