[identity profile] rokica.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] vaginapagina
A couple of weeks ago, I asked if anybody else had ever had pink discharge, and sadly, no one was able to comment. In the meanwhile, I've been nosing around on the web and found that the Mayo Clinic page on vaginosis (of which yeast infections are a type) lists slight bleeding as one of the possible symptoms of vaginosis! I was very relieved to find something out there that mentioned this symptom, so I thought I'd share it with y'all. Just in case.

I'm sorry; I don't recall seeing the original post at all.

Anyway, I've had a bit of mid-cycle bleeding now and then (not related to vaginosis). My doctor thinks it's just hormonal. Generally, it resolves itself, so I don't tend to worry about it.

Frequent, vigorous sex can definately bring on infections. I'm sorry if this is a stupid/personal question, but do you pee right after sex? Speaking as someone prone to infections, I find peeing after sex to be helpful (in addition to taking acidophilus and cranberry pills every single day).

Regarding semen, I believe I've read that the PH balance in semen can potentially alter a woman's vaginal ph environment, which could theoretically promote yeast infections. I've also read that an allergy is possible, but that seems not quite as likely.

Have you asked your Dr. what he/she thought?

It is probably not an allergy, but more likely that the pH of his semen screws up your own pH, causing infection. it happens a *lot*, especially if you don't have regular sex and then suddenly have a whole bunch of it in a short period of time.

if you're not, make sure you *always* pee after sex. I find that wiping off with a warm washcloth or a baby wipe after helps some too, as does sleeping without underwear. i had a rash of infections a while ago, and those things seemed to help some. (I also started taking acidophilus supplements, because acidophilus is good for vaginal health - it's one of the healthy types of bacteria that your vaginal needs, and it often present in low levels in people who get infections easily). it is tough though - I had to treat BV 4 times before it finally left me alone, and I still get yeast from time to time, but not nearly so often.
