Stress...

I think I just need reassurance...

I'm on Ortho Tri-Cyclen (not light or low, just regular)
I'm 97% sure I haven't missed any pills this month, I don't think I missed any last month either. I take them at the same general time every day (between 12-2am right before I go to bed.)
Since I've been on the pill (for about a year) my period has been pretty regular. I more recently figured out HOW regular so that I could be prepared.
Last month it came a few hours early.
This month it is 24 hours late. (AKA: I still haven't gotten it!!)
I really don't even want to consider pregnancy, and I'm sure the stress of thinking about that (plus school, life, etc) is making it later. (PS: I'm barely active, I use backup, but I did happen to be on the green/non-active pills this last time...does that mean anything?)

Has any of this happened to anyone? Assuage my fears!! Please!

Also: This is one of those stupid questions that needs to be asked; I know how to put condoms on right, but no one ever mentions what it will look like if it's broken. I assume it would be leaking? Pop right off? (Rip like a ballon, sort of?) Is it like an orgasm...when it happens, you'll know it?

Question 2: any or all of the above. It might pop, or split down the side, or dribble or all kinds of things.

Question 1: I'm on the pill and can usually pinpoint my period within a couple of hours. When I'm sick or stressed or not eating properly or alter things about my life in other ways, it sometimes shows up a day or two late. And it does happen that women on the pill skip periods entirely, even if they aren't trying to. There's probably a note about it in the instructions in your pillpack. If it would assuage your fears, wait another day or two, and if your period doesn't come, take a pregnancy test.

If you've taken it correctly the chances are pretty slim that you're pregnant. Especailly when you're using backup.

Being on the inactive pills doesn't raise your chances of pregnancy. Your pill does three things throughout the three weeks of hormones-it suppresses ovulation, so that if you don't release an egg, you can't fertilize it, it thickens the cervical mucous so it's harder for the sperm to get through to fertilize an egg should one be release, and just in case those two things fail, it thins the lining of your uterus so that the egg really can't implant-this is why your periods may be shorter or lighter on the pill. All these things happen, through the three weeks of active pills, and the week of inactive pills you bleed only because your body doesn't have the hormones, not the same as the reason you really have a period when you're not on the pill.

When a condom broke on my boyfriend and I, it was split all the way from the top down the side, SOOOOO obvious.

You're fine if you took all the pills correctly, ESPECIALLY if you used backup.

The title of your post - "Stress" - probably is a decent indicator of what might be making your period a little late. It's no big deal.

Most of the broken condoms I've seen were broken somewhere in the middle of the shaft, yeah they looked kinda like a ripped balloon. Unfortunately a broken/missing condom isn't necessarily a "if it happens, you'll know it" kind of deal, at least until you're done.

I had so many needless pregnancy scares in high school that I'm probably *too* nonchalant about it now. I eventually just realized that it's harder to get pregnant than people think, and if I'm doing something to stop it, it's probably going to work.

The two times that a condom has broken on me (or I suppose us?), we didn’t know until it was over. The condom (two different brands, a couple of YEARS apart) broken by the tip so the condom was sort of “pushed up” to the top, the guy could feel it hugging him still at the base of the shaft (even though the rest of him wasn’t covered), so he thought it was still on. *shudders* Both times, my method was condoms without spermicide ONLY.

I’m glad you got your period and don’t have to stress over it so much anymore.
