Question...

So I've posted here in the past, been in and out reading things and lately I've honestly been a little fed up with my body.

So my periods are irregular, have been for a few years now and I've just sort of dealt with it. I tried two different kinds of BC to see if it helps, but it makes things worse honestly. Like...both times, it was nonstop. For 2-3 months. With constant pain and not wanting to move at all. So I stopped that and haven't looked back.

Well my body is trying desperately to sync up with my roommate and it's not working out in my favor. Period came and went and I thought it was over, but for the last month I've been spotting. Like...old blood/tissue mess sort of thing. It won't stop. I don't know how to flush it all out and get it to freaking stop. It's honestly becoming a huge annoyance. So my question to you is how to make it stop/flush it all out?

I've tried looking it up through search engines and come up empty handed so far...

PS: I wasn't sure what or how to tag this for the community :C

For menstrual irregularities, my first stop is generally a blood test for thyroid problems. A set of tests for PCOS is also a good idea. Testing your estrogen levels might be useful, too.

For the more immediate issue of stopping the current flow, that is a bit trickier. Ideally, a doctor could probably give you a quick dose of fake hormones to tell your uterus, "Give it a rest, hon." In the absence of a doctor... If it is just that your uterus didn't get everything out in a timely fashion, orgasms might induce uterine contractions to speed things along.

If it is that your uterus has somehow become confused about what constitutes a natural hormone drop, much as uteruses can be confused by late or missed HBC pills, then waiting for your next real period should work, except for the whole irregularity thing. (I can totally try to google up a free or low-cost clinic or you, if you need one!)

Yeah, stress can definitely do a number on your periods -- and wonky sleep schedules can be stressful. Still, if you have some other thyroid symptoms -- heat or cold intolerance, constant fatigue/drowsiness, loss of hair (esp eyebrow hair), constipation, brainfog... Some of those could be explained away by the bad sleep schedule, but then again, I explained away all my symptoms for years, so better a test if you can get one.

If you absolutely can't afford a doctor... You might be able to smack your uterus over the head with a few days of leftover HBC (which causes a surge and fall of the hormones, which would likely provoke another withdrawal bleed that would hopefully satisfy the uterus with an "oh, I got a real hormone drop, okay" kind of thing), Plan B (same deal), or binging on plants with phytoestrogens in them. On the other hand, that's sheer conjecture and is probably likely to just make your uterus even more cranky afterwards, as it would be trying to override whatever your ovaries are (or aren't) doing.

Those would be last-ditch kind of things, if you absolutely had to try to stop bleeding and had nothing to lose by the attempt.

I wish I had more useful suggestions!

I would call the place you had the blood tests done and ask for a copy of the results, so you can actually know what they tested for. And if you do get your thyroid checked, ask for the actual numbers since some labs use outdated info. beth (above) is the thyroid queen and can tell you more at that point, haha.
