I'm unsure if anyone will be able to answer this or help me out but I figure it's worth a try...

I'm leaving for Army Basic Training on Monday. I'm currently on the pill. They encourage women who are on the pill to continue taking it since your body is used to it. I would really like to keep taking it because it makes my period last 4 days and it's the easiest period ever compared to my 6 days and very painful periods before I started BC. The problem is you are not allowed to take your pill packs with you. You have to bring a perscription and a doctor there will perscribe them to you. I don't have a doctor and I don't have health insurance so I get my birthcontrol through planned parenthood. Does anyone know if I'll be able to get a perscription from them? If not does anyone have any ideas on what I could/should do?

Thank you so much.

You do have a 'script from them, you just also have it filled at the same time. My local PP makes you get it filled there, and I'd guess that's common... however... if you explained the deal, I'm sure they'd surely give you one.

OR... take one month's worth with you, explain it as soon as you get there, and an Army doc will write you a 'script to fill there. (I mean, if they're encouraging you to stay on it, they surely can't expect you not to bring ANY at all?)

... you know, really, you might ask your recruiter.

Hmmm... I've also heard if you're deployed a Diva cup (or a Keeper or whatever) can be amazing.

Your best idea is to talk to your recruiter and ask them - explain that you have no health insurance and blahblahblah. Maybe see if there is a planned parenthood around the area you'll be going to? If not that, then a free clinic you could potentially get to?

Yep, I would call your PP office and tell them you need a written prescription for your birth control pill. They should be able to provide it for you with no problems.

Good luck at ABT!

If nothing else, take a photocopy of the label on your pill pack - it should show your name, the prescribing doctor's name (or NP, or whatever), and the name and dosage of the medication, and that will probably be enough for the Army medical team to work from.

Another thought to consider, if you take a brand of BC that has the same hormones all month (usually all the pills will be the same color, rather than 3 or 4 different colors) then you could consider skipping your period all together...then you wouldn't have to worry about it at all while in Basic. To do this, you just skip the "sugar pills" at the end of your pack, and start taking another pack right away, without waiting a week. Is that at all clear? I'm terrible at explaining things...

Also, I have asked several GYN's if this is safe, and have been assured that it is.
