My SO and I had sex three times in the course of less than 48 hours with spermicide condoms, Sunday and Monday. Today is Thursday and my vagina is REALLY REALLY REALLY fucking itchy. There's no unusual discharge or weird smell of any sort. My vagina is regular except for the fact that I'm excrutiatingly itchy, dry from itching, and sore. Is this a yeast infection? If not, then what the hell is it? What could it be? Please help me! It really really hurts. :(

Thanks to everyone in advance.

If you've never had a yeast infection before, it may very well be one. When I had a yeast infection, I didn't have any discharge, etc, just intense itching. We're talking intense. If it is your first one, you should see a doctor. You could also be allergic to spermicide.

You can get them all kinds of ways. It's a bacteria imbalance. Yeast infections do not equal sex, so you're in the clear there. :)

And a yeast infection is what it sounds like to me.

Good luck.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe sometimes yeast infections just happen. I know mine wasn't caused by sex.. just one day I was super itchy.

It can also happen if you are on antibiotics.

But don't be scared - just because you tell your mom you have a yeast infection doesn't mean that she's going to assume that you are sexually active. I would highly reccomend going to a doctor, because they can diagnose it, you can go on medication, and it will stop itching.

latex condoms? maybe a latex sensitivity? either that or yeasty those are my vote. my 'gina feels like that after use of latex and Im sensitive thought not all out allergic. If it goes away and is not a yeasty true using polyuerethan condoms... In my opinion they feel SOOOO much better during and of course no ouchie after .. they are more expensive than latex.

Maybe because of the length or number of times? I know mine is worse when I have sex for a long time or a couple times in a row of course I could be wrong could be something else. Won't hurt to treat a yeasty especially if you use a cheaper natural cure. like acidophilus pills and/or yogurt

It is very possible it's a yeast infection. I actually just read about this a couple days ago. Apparently, when you have an increased amount of sexual activity in a short time, things can get a little crazy down south. To prevent this, you're supposed to make sure you pee soon after you're done doing the deed---this will flush out anything icky.

just to clear this up, peeing after sex helps prevent UTIs, but it makes no difference when it comes to yeast, since yeast is vaginal and peeing doesn't clear out your vagina. :)

Could be irritation due to the spermacide. Some of them are REALLY harsh on the vagina, even causing little itty bitty open sores. Whish would be uncomfortable and, as healing wounds do, itch.

I suggest using a LOT of lube when having a lot of sex. Then again, I suggest using a LOT of lube always. But my guess here is that it's the spermacie irritating you.

I'm not sure what it could be, however, if you want some releif while you either wait it out or decide to see a dr, I reccomend VASELINE (Petroleum Jelly).

Vaseline is COMPLETELY safe to use in your genital area, and it is SO SO SO soothing to any sores or itchyness that you may occur. I'm not so sure about putting it inside your vagina per say, but if you have issues with your vulva or any place on the outside or around the opening to your vagina, grab some Vaseline and go nuts.

At the very least, it will make the itching go away so that you don't scratch it and make it work. I swear by this. THank me later. :P

I meant to say worse. So taht you don't scratch it and make it worse not work. I'm scatterbrained today.

Just to add to this: An idea might be to put the vaseline in the freezer or fridge. The coolness might be an added help.

I would also suggest sitting in a bathtub, or holding a warm or cool cloth to your vulva a couple times a day. What every feels best.

Please remember about the vaseline though, that it is not safe to use with condoms. It will eat away at the material, so even if you are using the vaseline and have sex w/ condom several hours later I'd be concerned. But, it doesn't sound like you're about to have sex anytime soon.

Good luck

All good ideas, though I just wanted to make one teeny disclaimer about the Vaseline.

Because it's oil-based (and not water-based like most lubes), it is not safe to use with condoms. Some people recommend against putting it near your vagina in the first place:

Yeah, I'd NEVER use Vaseline as a lube, but like the other gal said, she doesn't sound like she's going to have sex any time soon.

I just find it to be SOO much more soothing than any other cream or lotion out there that you can get over the counter (as far as vaginal itching or irritation goes - if it really is a yeast infection, get proper meds). It doesn't have any funky chemicals or medications, so that you can't have an allergic reaction, or freaky side effects, and it allows your body to get in there and heal as quickly as possible without the aggravation of further irritation.

I prefer to let my body heal some things on it's on anyways, we as a society medicate ourselves too much.

Now, I'm really frustrated, because I'm finding really mixed messages about vaseline. Some people are telling me that it's totally fine to use on the vulva, while others say that it's the last thing I want to use and will cause even more problems. I can't seem to get a straight answer.

Were you told it was ok by a doctor at some point?

I mean, I remember using it as a kid and it working wonders, but now with all of these warnings, I'm nervous. I'm so sick of buying things that people rave about in one forum and then googling it and finding other people telling me not to use it ever!

Sounds like how I'd react if I were allergic to the spermicidal condoms.

I've had issues with spermicidal condoms, based on brands. I have no problem at all with Pure Pleasure, but Trojans make me feel...uhm, icky-sore...for a day or two afterwards. Sadly, they also prevent me from repeating any kind of penetration play (penis / fingers / toys) for a while, as I get a really "raw" feeling particularly near the entrance to my vagina. Not sure if this helps, but if you've changed brands lately, it could be a possibility.

Oh, one last thing about latex & spermicidal sensitivity - it can happen after you've been using them for a while with no problems. A nurse friend of mine suddenly found her hands swelling up and breaking out in hives - after 4 years of nursing, she had developed a latex reaction.

I agree with the above 2 posters, I think it sounds like a spermicide allergy. I found the same problem when We used a spermicide brand of condom. It is terribly annoying when it itches.

Hmm, thanks for pointing that last part out. I've been having somewhat similar issues, but I thought it was unlikely since I was using the same condoms I always have.

It sounds like it could be a yeast infection. Yeast just happens sometimes, it's perfectly normal and you can get them without having sex, so no worries there. It's an imbalance of the natural bacteria in your vagina. Since you did have a lot of sex though, it could just be from that - sometimes lots of sex leads to yeast. If it's your first one, it's best to go to the doctor just to be sure that's what's going on. Your doctor can prescribe you a pill to treat it, or you can get an over-the-counter treatment. You can also use homoepathic remedies, especially if you start getting them frequently (there's information about treating yeast with yogurt and garlic in the archives, though if you need more info from me I can tell you about that).

The other thing it could easily be is irritation from the spermicide. Spermicidal are really hard on your vagina, and the small amount of spermicide on condoms has been proven fairly pointless anyway (it's not enough to make any significant difference in protection, just enough to irritate your vagina), so I wouldn't use them if I were you.

For now, try wrapping an ice pack in a towel and sleeping with that between your legs. It helped me a *lot* last time I was seriously itchy and burny from a yeast infection.

itchiness

Slippery elm bark is excellent for the itchiness as well, applied externally. You can get it in bulk at any natural/healthy type food store. You just make it into a paste with a little water. adn it smells *really* good.
