Okay, last month I my vagina became rather sore and itchy and burned slightly. I made a doctors appointment, then got my period and the symptoms went away. I still went to the doctor and told her how I felt and she said that it sounded like a yeast infection, and gave me Diflucan. Well, I took it, even though my symptoms were already gone and nothing happened until this month.

I got a prescription from my dermatologist for erythromicin(sp?) a antibiotic given to treat a number of things, mine was for acne. I only took one pill, because it made me feel rather weird. So, about the three days later, itchiness and redness began and then it started to burn really bad. I thought that I'd wait till my period started, but it was four days late. When it did come, it just made all the symptoms worse than they were before I got my period.

Do you think I had a yeast infection the first time? Or was is something else that has now come back? I don't know what is going on and want to wait till my period is over to go to the doctor but the itch is something horrible. PLEASE HELP!

I'm sorry you're having so much discomfort. The antibiotic could easily have caused another yeast infection. I'd call your doctor and see if you can get another diflucan scrip,or try an OTC YI treatment. Having your period doesn't usually interfere with treating a YI. You can still use an over the counter treatment, just use pads rather than tampons, as they can absorb the medication. Plus, OTC anti fungals usually relieve symptoms like itching more quickly. Cold compresses can also help that.

I hope you feel better soon.

Yeast infections can be cured or reduced in severity when one has a period, because the blood is the wrong acidity to make yeast happy. It's probable that yours either went away from the period, or was reduced a lot. And later, the antibiotics have killed off the friendly bacteria that keep yeast in check, and BAM! Yeastie!

I'd suggest adding probiotics to your diet as well (and/or insert probiotic capsules vaginally), to refresh the good bacteria that the antibiotics have been killing.

Good luck!
